Connecting to Readerware database from mobile device
I'm attempting to open ports (forward) for a local network application on the Orbi router/mesh network.
The app is running on my desktop connected via ethernet to the Orbi and requires, for mobile access, port 9020 to be opened. Currently running the V4.6.14.3_2.3.12 firmware on the Orbi system. Mobile is connected to the same network.
Desktop 192.168.1.33
Mobile 192.168.1.36
Created a custom service name on the router, set TCP/UPD and the external port ranges (9002,9020,9030,9040) for 192.168.1.33 where the app runs. Windows Defender Firewall on the desktop has the app allowed on all TCP/UDP ports. Yet, when I attempt to connect on the mobile client, it fails to connect to the db, every time.
If I'm attempting to connect to this application running on the desktop (x.33) from the mobile (x.36) and the app's default port is 9020 shouldn't I only need to add port forwarding for x.33:9020?
I had this running on old ASUS mesh routers so it has worked before.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Something to contact the Mfr of this database program about regarding there product.
There appears to some ambiguity regarding the term mobile access. Users forward ports through their router so that devices on the internet can connect to resources on the local LAN (whether those remote devices are computers, laptops, cell phones, etc. etc. is not relevant. mobile generally refers to "somewhere else.")
There are two important steps in allowing access to a device on the LAN:
- Verify that the device can be accessed from the LAN. i.e. if another device on the same LAN cannot access the resource, then there is no point attempting to access it remotely.
In this case, it appears that the device at 192.168.1.36 is not able to access the server at 182.168.1.33 when both are on the Orbi LAN. That issue needs to be resolved before attempting access remotely. Windows Defender Firewall is the obvious place to start. Firewall has different settings for public and private networks. - Ensure that the Orbi router has a public IP address. If the Orbi is "behind" another router and does not connect directly to the internet, then port forwarding has no effect because connections cannot reach the Orbi.
And, yes, if port 9020 is the only port required, then that is the only port to forward.
