Did 7.2.6.31 destroy my RBR750 system

Hello,

I've been an Orbi customer for a decade and frequently recommend them. For the last 2-3 years, I've used an Orbi WiFi 6 Router AX4200 system (RBK753) with an RBR750 and two RBS750 satellites. After switching to fiber several months ago, the system continued to work perfectly. Recently, I enabled automatic firmware updates based on the trust I’d developed around update quality.

Yesterday around noon, the system abruptly stopped working. I confirmed that internet was functioning normally, and that all cables were working. After extensive troubleshooting, including factory resets for both the router and satellites (which are now powered off), I identified the router as the problem.

I discovered that the router had updated to version 7.2.6.31. Suspecting a faulty update, I re-flashed 7.2.6.31, performed a factory reset, rebooted with a 30-second cooldown, and rebooted the fiber modem before reconnecting the router. This worked briefly (about 2 minutes) but has since failed.

After poking around, it became obvious that 7.2.6.31 had widespread issues, I downgraded to 7.2.6.21, repeating the factory reset and rebooting steps. Despite this, my RBR750 with 7.2.6.21 will not connect to the internet. Plugging the same cable into a laptop provides a perfect connection. The router's status alternates between “STATUS: Waiting” and “ERROR: Not Connected”.

I'm 9 hours in, and and extremely frustrated. I’be begun Googling “trustworthly wi-fi mesh systems 2024”. Is there anything else I can/should do?

Thank you,

  • Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.
