Directing devices to router or satelite?
I have an RBR850 and RBS850 with some 76 devices attaching.
I have a multiroom audio system and want to direct some of the devices to the router or the satellite depending on location.
Is there a manual way to move them within App or web site?
Remember reading somewhere the only way to do it is to turn down power of router or satellite til they drop off and connect to the more power one? but surely if i do this everything will end up connecting to more powerful transmission.
Is there no way to edit the IP address and make them static to router or satellite?
Thanks

Alas, Netgear Orbi systems have no method to force a particular WiFi device to connect to a specific access point (router or satellite). There are brands that have such a capability, but not the Netgear Orbi.
Netgear's position appears to be that each device will determine where it connects. (This is not the sort of thing that shows up in published documentation.) There are various strategies users have come up with to attempt to get devices connected where they want them to be:
- Power cycle WiFi devices after the WiFi network has totally come on line. The router typically begins broadcasting WiFi networks before satellites do, and some devices may have been programmed to stop looking for a better connection after they get connected. Users following this strategy often use small UPS units to power each of the network devices so that short power outages do not restart the entire system and force them to go through the process again.
- Lower the Transmit Power of the WiFi system. This is an advanced feature on most of the Orbi products (not sure if it exists on the latest WiFi7 systems). Reducing the Transmit Power is a "double edged sword". (a) it reduces the area of strong coverage for every Orbi unit (not something people usually want), and (b) it tends to make which unit is a better connection more obvious. Clearly a WiFi device that is exactly half way between two satellites will still find them both equally desirable.
It is not clear to me how much of an issue this is in practical terms. Stereo music requires under 1Mbps of network capacity. Surely all these speakers are achieving that good of a connection. Streaming 4K video (with sound) requires 25Mbps, so a good connection is more of a consideration.

It is to be fair more about tidying up the system and balancing the loads etc.
No network drop out issues so far, some connectivity issues with Sonos system however the wisdom seems to suggest sonos awful operating system as never any issues from any other product connected to the Orbi mesh
The Satellite is taking 50-55 of the 78 connected devices and I just thought I could simply associate certain static items to a specific router or satellite. Leaving mobile products, like laptop, phones, watches tablets etc to choose their own route 🙂
