Thanks for your help, but unfortunately that's a little too brief on the explanation. I'm not quite understanding all that you've given in your technical detail.

It either works or doesn't. If your system and VOIP is working, then you can leave SIP as is. If it's not working, then try disabling SIP at the location path given on the RBR. Most of the time SIP doesn't need to be disabled.
That is great to know. OK, what is the location path. I can't find any information about how to do this anywhere and its not obvious, for instance it doesn't have a radio button for disabling/enabling SIP ALG
As furry38 mentioned, the "Disable SIP ALG" checkbox is under the "Advanced" Tab->Setup->WAN Setup.
