Amazing - why always dig on the wrong end?
A standards compliant 2.4 GHz WiFi client will connect to the [whatever] Mesh system 2.4 GHz (except it has some limitations and struggling about the additional bits on air - talk to the wireless client vendor).
All these IoT require some kind of config helper, typically an App. Many of these discovery and config apps insist the mobile is connected "to" a network served by a 2.4 GHz (even if almost no mobile or any other wireless client offers such a choice). The only reason it the expectation does allow to read the SSID and the security key from the current connection. With a decent Mesh system, this is the same regardless if it's a 2.4 GHZ, a 5 GHz, or a (coming up) 6 GHz, or a 60 GHz connection in use. And again you must talk to the wireless device vendor. If people don't complain there, this IoT nonsense will never be fixed.
Afraid, some other community members will complain and state this won't help the OP here immediately. But most likely, there is nothing Netgear can do, or will do - like providing help with unsupported hacks ruining the Mesh user experience.
