thanks for this thread.

No.sorry again. Both the AT&T modem/router and the Orbi are in the garage. The Orbi used to be in the closet where the Comcast came in. Everything is in the garage now. My Nas is in the closet.
Best.

I can try to put the Orbi back in the closet but I didn’t want to leave it on complete opposite ends of the house. The closet is actually a poor location (other than for reception in my bedroom as it is in a corner of the house. It just is where they put the cable lines when they built the house.

I moved the orbi router back to the closet, hooked up directly to the at&t router via ethernet along the house. Since the network has been back up, two issues. the periodic slow down in upload vs. download still exits (router speed tests will show as little as 150 up with 2200 down even though the test at the at&t router has virtually symmetric up/down) and now a bunch of smart devices can't seem to connect (about six or seven Kasa switches, I reset one and was not able to get it to join either my IoT network which is 2.4 GHz only) or my main network; a few level connect wifi bridges). my iPhone takes many minutes to connect after I either leave home or disconnected to connect o my Kasa switch. I'm going to reboot. but this is a bit maddening. sorry for all the messages. I hope everyone has a good holiday!
best.

There will be some speed loss due to double routing (Double NAT) but that shouldn't account for 2200 up to 150 up.
I don't know what wrong with your wireless device connection issues (Kasa switches and your iPhone). Did it get better after you restarted your Orbi. I find that sometimes my Orbi 960 wireless gets into a state where I cannot connect because it says wrong password. When that happens I have to reboot the Orbi.
What security option did you pick for your 2.4Ghz IoT network? I suggest WPA2-PSK [AES].
What security option did you pick for your main 5Ghz wireless network that your iPhone is connecting to? I suggest WPA2-PSK [AES] + WPA3-Personal [SAE]. Is your iPhone less than an iPhone 15 Max? Then it cannot connect to your 6Ghz network and will use the 5Ghz network.
You might have wireless congestion and could improve things by selection specific channels for your 2.4hz and 5Ghz bands, but I don't think congestion would explain what you described (iPhone takes many minutes to connect).

Thanks again for your thorough and thoughtful responses. and apologies for being away during the holiday I had thought I had solved the issue by enabling IPV6 and everything started connecting with no issues. tonight the router went down and after rebooting, some of the Kasa switches and my iPhone weirdly don't connect. well, actually the iPhone says it is connected, but no wifi indicator and it doesn't connect to anything. however, if I connect to my guest network it works. totally strange. the iPhone is connecting appropriately at 6GHz channel....
I'm going to reboot and see what happens.
will update again. thanks again!

rebooting seems to now allow everything to reconnect... weird. thanks again for your suggestions.

So is everything now working after you did the reboot?
- Dan007Dec 30, 2023Aspirant
Seems like it's all working now. thanks!

Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Enjoy. 📡 - Dan007Dec 30, 2023AspirantUnfortunately I spoke too soon. Still have the speed issues on uploads frequently and the system rebooted because I had to do some electrical work and. Now I’m having same issues with smart devices and iPhone. Can’t connect at all to the Orbi system. Have rebooted it multiple times to no avail. 😞
- Dan007Dec 30, 2023AspirantFor reference this is a not uncommon speed test result off the Orbi. Even though the modem is getting 2300 up. The connection issues is beyond confusing to me.

Can you try the Orbi system in AP Mode while the ISP ONT is in router mode and also disable the ONT wifi radios as well?
