IPhones and iPads constantly lose connection or will connect with self assigned IP address.
I have this same exact issue. IPhones and iPads constantly lose connection or will connect with self assigned IP address. This router is horribly unstable

Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
Try option #2 first...
Ok for that size of home, you only need the RBR and 1 RBS. Two RBS maybe causing those devices to ping pong around and not connect properly and fail to lock on. I have a 5000sq ft home and get away with one RBS. When I do have both connected, I turn down the power on the RBR to 25%. Haven't seen any issues with my Apple devices.
Turn OFF both RBS first and see if the Apple devices connect to just the RBR alone. Then try just one RBS out at 30 feet from the RBR. I'd turn down the power on your RBR to 50% and then test again.

Orbi router is in router mode
Modem wifi radios are already disabled
i will try turning down power on RBR and RBS.- FURRYe38Oct 06, 2023Guru - Experienced User
Try with just the RBR and one RBS. Turn the other one off.
After testing and observation, review the new FW update as well:
- brandobotOct 08, 2023GuideI updated the firmware. Also unplugged one sallellite and just experienced the same issue.
My iPhone gets a self assigned IP address I toggle off and on wifi and after a few minutes, it’ll eventually reconnect.
Fwiw - I don’t experience this issue when I’m on my work wifi which I’m on 9 hours a day x 5 days a week.
