Manual IP address assignment fails, DHCP does not??
Today I disabled IPv6 on my Netgear Orbi 960 router as a test, as the router was using more memory than normal - and it appeared that IPv6 was the culprit. I am testing that to see if memory usage st...

When you set up Static IPs on these devices, are you also inputting DNS addresses as well? If so what DNS addresses are you using?

If you mean DHCP, that's the way they are running now, otherwise they would not be on WiFi. I set them back to DHCP, they grab an IP address and are good as gold. I can go back and forth (DHCP with internet, States/Manual with no internet) all day...

Whoa that worked! I set DNS first to Google 8.8.8.8, it worked - changed it to my router, it worked still! I flipped DNS back to Automatic, and it went right to cellular with no WiFi. So for some reason it needs that! I bet it's because, with IPv6 enabled, it has a DNS it can access there - the IPv6 DNS address. But with no IPv6, it doesn't process Automatic DNS properly.

That's something that I've always had to do is input static DNS address if I set a static IP on Apple devices. I don't use IPv6 as my ISP doesn't support it. So just have had to additionally input static DNS and they worked. I guess with IPv6 enabled the Apple devices may seem to auto get DNS thru IPv6 which by default is always enabled on Apple devices. Remove the IPv6 connection at the router and they can't get full internet if you use static IP with out static DNS.

Thanks owlyn - when I have IPv6 enabled, I do Auto Detect and for me it works - becomes DHCP - and Ihave all the proper IPv6 settings. Have IPv6 turned off right now confirming the router chews up about 250MB more memory almost immediately when satellites connect.
