When the system stops working, the devices are still connected to the wifi but they are not able to connect to the internet.
It would be useful to know whether WiFi devices
- Lose internet
- Lose connection to the primary router
- Lose the ability to resolve URLs into IP addresses
The next time this happens, would it be convenient to do a few tests? such as
From a 'wired' device, see if it is possible to 'ping' one of the WiFi devices. (Not all WiFi devices respond to ICMP ['ping']. For example, my smart phone does, but an Echo Dot does not. Windows Firewall has be instructed to allow ICMP in order to respond.
From a device connected with WiFi, try these tests:
- Ping a wired device.
- Ping ford.com
- Ping 19.12.113.37 (which is the IP address for ford.com)
Does the primary router indicate that the Orbi router and satellites and the WiFi devices are 'on-line'?
If the condition exists for only a few minutes, it may be difficult to perform much troubleshooting.
Although these may seem "hair-splitting technicalities", the results might help point toward the root of the problem.
