My RBR750/RBS750 is having it's internet connection start and stop over and over
I am using an RBR750 router connected to three RBS750 satellites. I live in a home with chicken wire / plaster walls so signal doesn't travel well, which is why we have so many satellites. It's wor...

Just got off the phone with Netgear tech support and wanted to share what I learned in case any future people have this issue. They suggested one thing new and it actually appears to be working: use a hard wired connection for each of my satellites. Now I get that some people won't have this as an option but I actually do.
Recapping previous learnings, my system worked fine with just the router. It worked fine with the router and any one of the three satellites. But once I added the second or third satellite, it stopped working. So I tried adding the second and third satellites as wired and they worked. Now I'm going to try and add the first satellite back as wired and see if it remains stable.

Yes, Start with the 3rd RBS while the others are OFF. See what happens...
I think maybe for 1900sq ft home, possible 3rd RBS maybe too much.

So I've done three rounds and everything works great when it's just the router and any of the three satellites. However when I add a second or third, it stops working.
I should note that I had been running a router and two satellites since the beginning and it worked flawlessly for about 18 months. We have plaster and chicken wire walls (which kill signal) so I added a third satellite about 6 months ago. It worked flawlessly for five months.
Then a month ago everything stopped working well.
Do you think I should try factory resetting each of the satellites and re-adding them all?
Again, thank you so much for your help.

Possible your environment and adding a 3rd maybe causing problems.
I would run with the RBR and just 1 RBS...

Long story short, our house is a funky shape with signal-killing walls and even with two satellites, one of them would often have poor backhaul status until we got the third.
Anyway, I factory reset each one and removed it via the router. Then I re-added them one at a time. Strangely, I don't know how, but the router remembered each satellite's device name. Maybe because it recognized the MAC Address?Fingers crossed that this will hold.

And it's back to intermittently not working...
What's the best way to truly factory resetting the satellites? I tried putting the paper clip into the hole and saw the tiny amber light turn on in the back and then it started blinking amber and then I let it go. But when it came back on, the router recognized it still. Am I doing it wrong?
- Klinger123Apr 24, 2022Aspirant
I'll add that when the Internet connection goes down, none of the satellites or router show any colored lights and the backhaul status for all three satellites remains Good. I feel like I'm losing my mind.

Factory reset the RBS by pressing the reset button for 15 seconds then release. Once the front LED starts to blink WHITE, power them OFF. To factory reset the RBR, I use the ERASE button under Advanced Tab/Administration/Backup. Setup the RBR from scratch, I would skip adding the RBS until the setup wizard completes. Then Resync RBS one at time.
I would set manual channels 1 and 4 initially.

Ah, let me clarify. I meant that when they are showing that no internet is available (even though it is), no color bands are showing. Just extra info.
- Klinger123Apr 25, 2022Aspirant
The only thing I did not do of this was power them off and back on when they flashed white. I will try it again.

I get why this is a problem, but they key here is that everything worked brilliantly for many, many months until some conflict happened and all the router/satellites would show no Internet connectivity. I'd have full signal strength from them, but they had no Internet access.
So it used to work fine and something (software? hardware?) happened. It seems like it's some sort of conflict between the satellites. I would love to go back to a month ago where it all worked brilliantly. Trying to figure out what happened.

Thanks. This was happening with the old firmware. I manually upgraded the firmware on all of them to the current version and it is still happening.
I did try going through the historical posts, but nothing was quite the same issue. I guess my next attempt will be to reset the router.

Just updating for anyone who reads this later that currently I have two satellites and the router up and running and since it's all working, I haven't hard reset the router yet nor am I using the third satellite. I'm trying to be grateful for what I have right now which is decent enough coverage with 100% reliability.
It's still maddening that it has been an issue at all and it's not clear why it happened to begin with. If the network falters again, I will update with more info.

OK, thanks for letting us know. I would suggest that with the size of home and how many units you have, could be overloading the environment with a 3rd additional RBS. Having too much wifi signals can be problematic.
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
https://kb.netgear.com/000062080/How-do-I-back-up-the-configuration-settings-on-my-Orbi-WiFi-SystemHoping this continues to work well for you. Let us know if there are any updates of course.

Well the honeymoon did not last long. I am doing what you described. I have reset my router after backing up the settings. I am now adding each satellite, one at a time after having reset each of them as you described. I'll report back with how it goes.

You might also update the RBS first then RBR lastly:
New stuff released. I recommend doing a full on factory reset after the FW loads, system is back to ready and a power OFF for 1 minute then back ON has been performed. Use a wired PC and web browser for this. Load the FW on to each RBS web page using the RBS web page, not thru the RBRs web page.

Short version: I basically did exactly what you said and so far, everything is working great.
Longer version for anyone who has the same issue and is reading this in the future.
Ultimately nothing worked short of a complete factory reset of the router and all satellites. I followed all of FURRYe38's suggestions.
- I first backed up my router's settings.
- Then I did a factory reset from that same screen in the settings.
- I then individually did a factory reset on each satellite and unplugged it.
- I then completed the set up process of my Orbi router with no satellites on.
- Then I added each satellite back one at a time.
- I decided NOT to restore my router's settings that I backed up because I worried if that my bring whatever the problem was back into play. I could remember enough of what I needed to do in terms of port forwarding, static IP settings, etc.
It's only been a few hours but everything is holding up great so far. The problem used to occur many times an hour, so I am optimistic.
I'll come back in a bit to close this out if this fix holds.

Glad that work out for you. Be sure to save off a new backup config to file.
Let us know how it does in a few days.

I am disappointed to say that the problem is back.
My current theory is that there is too much traffic on the 5 GHz channel. I have an app on my Android phone called Wifi Analyzer and from what I'm seeing, it says that my network and another one are all on channel 42. What's weird is that my 5 GHz channel is set to 48.
I just downloaded another app to confirm the results and it's the same thing. Is it possible that it's not broadcasting on the channel it's supposed to be on? Channel 48 has MUCH less traffic but I can't get it to choose that.

What happens if you select channel 40, even though you may see some neighbors near 40.
Also might try reducing the power output to 50% on the system and see if this helps any...

So something strange is happening when I try to change the 5 GHz channel. By default, the interface at 192.168.1.1 shows it's on channel 48. When I look at it on my WiFi Analyzer app, it shows that it's on channel 42, which doesn't make any sense.
Looking through other posts, it sounds similar to this post: Orbi RBK852 - Selection of 5GHz channel 36 - Page 2 - NETGEAR Communities
No matter what channel I pick, it always shows that it's on channel 42, just like FarmerBob1 said. That post looks like it's a couple years old. Any idea on a resolution? I wonder if that's part of the problem.
- Klinger123Apr 28, 2022Aspirant
And I reduced the power output to 50%. Will report back.
- FURRYe38Apr 28, 2022Guru - Experienced User
Ya should not be on channel 42 if you select 48.
What is displayed on the Advanced Tab page seen here:
- Klinger123Apr 28, 2022Aspirant
And here are screenshots of the channel info.
Both appear to show Channel 42 as the main channel.

What does the graph button show in the list of SSIDs and the channels seen here on that wifi analyzer?

Do you mean this?

This one if you have this one on the app:
