My RBR750/RBS750 is having it's internet connection start and stop over and over
I am using an RBR750 router connected to three RBS750 satellites. I live in a home with chicken wire / plaster walls so signal doesn't travel well, which is why we have so many satellites. It's wor...

Just got off the phone with Netgear tech support and wanted to share what I learned in case any future people have this issue. They suggested one thing new and it actually appears to be working: use a hard wired connection for each of my satellites. Now I get that some people won't have this as an option but I actually do.
Recapping previous learnings, my system worked fine with just the router. It worked fine with the router and any one of the three satellites. But once I added the second or third satellite, it stopped working. So I tried adding the second and third satellites as wired and they worked. Now I'm going to try and add the first satellite back as wired and see if it remains stable.

Thanks. This was happening with the old firmware. I manually upgraded the firmware on all of them to the current version and it is still happening.
I did try going through the historical posts, but nothing was quite the same issue. I guess my next attempt will be to reset the router.

Just updating for anyone who reads this later that currently I have two satellites and the router up and running and since it's all working, I haven't hard reset the router yet nor am I using the third satellite. I'm trying to be grateful for what I have right now which is decent enough coverage with 100% reliability.
It's still maddening that it has been an issue at all and it's not clear why it happened to begin with. If the network falters again, I will update with more info.

OK, thanks for letting us know. I would suggest that with the size of home and how many units you have, could be overloading the environment with a 3rd additional RBS. Having too much wifi signals can be problematic.
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
https://kb.netgear.com/000062080/How-do-I-back-up-the-configuration-settings-on-my-Orbi-WiFi-SystemHoping this continues to work well for you. Let us know if there are any updates of course.

Well the honeymoon did not last long. I am doing what you described. I have reset my router after backing up the settings. I am now adding each satellite, one at a time after having reset each of them as you described. I'll report back with how it goes.

You might also update the RBS first then RBR lastly:
New stuff released. I recommend doing a full on factory reset after the FW loads, system is back to ready and a power OFF for 1 minute then back ON has been performed. Use a wired PC and web browser for this. Load the FW on to each RBS web page using the RBS web page, not thru the RBRs web page.

Short version: I basically did exactly what you said and so far, everything is working great.
Longer version for anyone who has the same issue and is reading this in the future.
Ultimately nothing worked short of a complete factory reset of the router and all satellites. I followed all of FURRYe38's suggestions.
- I first backed up my router's settings.
- Then I did a factory reset from that same screen in the settings.
- I then individually did a factory reset on each satellite and unplugged it.
- I then completed the set up process of my Orbi router with no satellites on.
- Then I added each satellite back one at a time.
- I decided NOT to restore my router's settings that I backed up because I worried if that my bring whatever the problem was back into play. I could remember enough of what I needed to do in terms of port forwarding, static IP settings, etc.
It's only been a few hours but everything is holding up great so far. The problem used to occur many times an hour, so I am optimistic.
I'll come back in a bit to close this out if this fix holds.

Glad that work out for you. Be sure to save off a new backup config to file.
Let us know how it does in a few days.

I am disappointed to say that the problem is back.
My current theory is that there is too much traffic on the 5 GHz channel. I have an app on my Android phone called Wifi Analyzer and from what I'm seeing, it says that my network and another one are all on channel 42. What's weird is that my 5 GHz channel is set to 48.
I just downloaded another app to confirm the results and it's the same thing. Is it possible that it's not broadcasting on the channel it's supposed to be on? Channel 48 has MUCH less traffic but I can't get it to choose that.

What happens if you select channel 40, even though you may see some neighbors near 40.
Also might try reducing the power output to 50% on the system and see if this helps any...

So something strange is happening when I try to change the 5 GHz channel. By default, the interface at 192.168.1.1 shows it's on channel 48. When I look at it on my WiFi Analyzer app, it shows that it's on channel 42, which doesn't make any sense.
Looking through other posts, it sounds similar to this post: Orbi RBK852 - Selection of 5GHz channel 36 - Page 2 - NETGEAR Communities
No matter what channel I pick, it always shows that it's on channel 42, just like FarmerBob1 said. That post looks like it's a couple years old. Any idea on a resolution? I wonder if that's part of the problem.
- Klinger123Apr 28, 2022Aspirant
And I reduced the power output to 50%. Will report back.
- FURRYe38Apr 28, 2022Guru - Experienced User
Ya should not be on channel 42 if you select 48.
What is displayed on the Advanced Tab page seen here:
- Klinger123Apr 28, 2022Aspirant
And here are screenshots of the channel info.
Both appear to show Channel 42 as the main channel.

What does the graph button show in the list of SSIDs and the channels seen here on that wifi analyzer?
- Klinger123Apr 28, 2022Aspirant
Do you mean this?

This one if you have this one on the app:
- Klinger123Apr 29, 2022Aspirant
Is this what you wanted?
- FURRYe38Apr 29, 2022Guru - Experienced User
Yes, select the SSID that belongs to your system, Look at the channels there. Whats listed there. Be sure to edit out MAC addresses if you post.
This list will tell you what exact channel the Orbi is using.
- Klinger123Apr 29, 2022Aspirant
So it does show the correct channel value when I go to that screen.
What else can I do? The only thing that worked (I think?) was literally just the router by itself. What else is there to try? I am very appreciative of your help but so very frustrated at all of this too. - Klinger123Apr 29, 2022Aspirant
I should probably add that we did upgrade from 500 Mbps to 1000 Mbps service around the same time this happened, but since the wired internet has had no problems, I figured that couldn't possibly be the issue.
- FURRYe38Apr 29, 2022Guru - Experienced User
So the RBR runs ok however when you had a RBS things start failing?
I guess run the RBR alone for a while and see how things go...

UPDATE
Running the router and one satellite seems to be stable. I'm not sure why running two satellites worked fine for almost two years and running three satellites worked fine for another six months... now it doesn't.
We're tried factory resetting everything. I get that too many satellites could become problematic, but it USED to work and I can't understand why it would just stop. Are there any other things to try? Could it be faulty hardware?
I guess I could live with what I have, but it's sad to have about $500 in hardware just sitting around that I wish I could use.

Kind of hard to tell. Possible environment could be a cause. Building materials. Possible the system was working ok however may have been on the fence and with a new FW update may have push something over. Possible faulty HW or a slow degradation over time. Something you can contact NG support about and see what options you may have.

Hi, thanks for the update. Ya, I don't presume that all users will have ethernet infrastructure abilities. Good idea though as a test.
No mention from NG about it had been all working until v4 FW came out?
Any mention of collection debug logs to help identify what happens when the 3rd RBS is connected?
- Klinger123May 05, 2022Aspirant
They were about to elevate me to the Tier 2 people and possibly replace my router, but they had me try this first. I did not realize it was an option as I thought both ports were to output signal and did not realize they could connect directly to the ethernet. I probably would not have gotten a third satellite if I realized that.
They did mention potentially rolling back my firmware but they didn't even ask if I had upgraded it to the latest firmware. No mentioning about any debug logs at all.

Ok.
Well I guess this would be a good alternative for use of a 3rd RBS. However again size of home and building materials should be applied as well when considering another RBS and placement and distances.
Ya, Ethernet connected RBS is most definitely supported:
I prefer this over wireless...
Hoping this will help so you can keep the 3rd RBS running. You might want to turn down the power to 50% if you return to 3 RBS. Even in my home, I normally use 50%. Still have great coverage and all gets connected. Also help in getting some devices to connect to the RBS vs RBR.
