NETGEAR - Orbi 750 Series AX4200 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6 Satellite; Latest Firmware Update v7.2.6.31

Good morning!

I'm hoping that someone from Netgear monitors these Community posts.....

I am running an Orbi 750 Series AX4200 with the 2 satellites (RBS350s) and an RBS750 satellite add on.  There was an update v7.2.6.31 shown for the RBR750 that I installed on the router yesterday.  However, after I installed the update to the router, the 2 RBS350 satellites started flashing a white halo, then would turn solid blue for a bit, then start flashing white again, then the solid blue, and on and on.  I then encountered connection problems with the network when trying to access the internet with mobile devices. I went into my Orbi app on my PC and tried to do a firmware update through the app, and after the program checked for updates, the RBR750 (router) showed that it was up to date, the RBS750 (satellite) showed that it had updated to v7.2.6.31, but the two RBS350 satellites showed the update failed.

Checking the Orbi app for the Network Map on my iPhone, it displayed that the 2 RBS350 satellites were not connected to the network, and I only had the RBR750 (router) and the RBS750 (satellite) available to connect to.

Doing some research in the community, I found where to download the older version v4.6.14.3 for the RBR750 (router) and manually install the downloaded file.  Once I did that and the system rebooted, my RBS350 (satellites) again were detected and all was back to normal.  The RBS750 had installed the update to  v7.2.6.31, but it connected just fine to the mesh network and no problems.  (NOTE:  I couldn't locate a download for the older v4.6.14.3 file to revert it back from the updated firmware v7.2.6.31 - but is recognized and operational).

Has anyone else had this issue?  Is this a problem with the Orbi firmware v7.2.6.31 update that doesn't recognize the RBS350 satellites?  Or, is Netgear no longer supporting the RBS350 satellites (if so, BAH HUMBUG!!!  I can't go out and purchase a new mesh system every other year).

Please advise!!!!  Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated!

  • Update 6/1/2024

Ordered 2 RBS750 'new' satellites from Ebay, received in mail this date.  (They were 'new' as the satellites had been part of a package, and the package was broken down into saleable individual items, and not used.)

Added the satellites to the router using the Orbi app, no issues connecting, ran firmware update and router and satellites are all updated to the most up-to-date version, but did have to go into the Orbi app on my PC to delete the old RBS350 satellites that I had removed from my setup.

Checked all connectivity, everything looks good.  However, when running an Internet Speed through the Orbi app on my iPhone (which actually runs the Speedtest directly through the router, and not a satellite), I found that the UPLOAD speed was only showing a speed of around 3.42 MBPS (DOWNLOAD speed was fine, around 930.12 MBPS).  I then ran a Speed test through Orbi on my PC, and it showed an UPLOAD speed of 3.64 MBPS (again, DOWNLOAD was okay as well, around 961.13).

For comparison, I then ran a Speedtest on my PC, and my results were a DOWNLOAD speed of 897.55 MBPS and an UPLOAD speed of 942.86 MBPS.

Any ideas on the difference between the tests for the upload speeds?  I believe I had seen this on one occasion previously with the Orbi app, but it resolved itself within a couple of hours.  Might this be a glitch with both the Orbi iOS app and through the orbilogin website?

FYI, I am on Spectrum Fiber Optic internet.  Tests results with the RBR750 and older RBS350s from 5/30/2024 using the Internet Speed function in the Orbi app on iPhone were DOWNLOAD speed of 946.58 MBPS and 951.76 MBPS.

Ideas on what might be causing this discrepancy, possible solutions?

    Thanks in advance!!!
