With the release of FW V7.2.7.15 on my RBK852, I have encountered very slow access to software related updates (Lyrion Music Server, Unraid plugins) on raw.githubusercontent.com. Unfortunately nothing is shown in the RBR850 logs.
I went back to FW V7.2.6.21 and access is snappy again. Then went to FW V7.2.6.31 and access is still fast.
Yes, I have done the necessary factory resets, power off/on, etc. For the moment I am going to stick with FW V7.2.6.31.
Not sure of this has something to do with this new security engine?

Is this firmware for Orbi 970 as well? Can't seem to find a thread regarding FW to that one.

No, I don’t - FURRYe38Mar 25, 2025Guru - Experienced User
What is mean by "very slow access to software related updates" Kind of vague and how are these updates received?
Are these on a wired PC or mobile device?
What ISP are you with and are you using IPv6?
Using ISP DNS or custom DNS?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Close to a minute vs seconds
Kind of vague and how are these updates received?
Directly from within the mentioned software
Are these on a wired PC or mobile device?
Both.
What ISP are you with and are you using IPv6?
IPv6 is disabled
Using ISP DNS or custom DNS?

Using the same ISP for many years and want to keep their info for myself.
For me, this has to do with access to github and some security within the latest FW that was changed or not there before.
I suggest to park my issue until someone else experiences similar issues.
Thanks. - FURRYe38Mar 25, 2025Guru - Experienced User
Ok, however please give more information next time you post. ISP and modem information is not a security risk for troubleshooting. The more information given the better we can troubleshoot or inform NG of this possible issue in FW. Though they will need more information as well.
Good Luck.
- Supertramp2Mar 25, 2025StarThanks. I will.
In the meantime - as github is more and more used for collaborative software development- please see if any of the software you use uses this platform as well.
Would be good to see if any access slowness is experienced that you did not have with previous FW versions. - FURRYe38Mar 25, 2025Guru - Experienced User
Have not noticed any such slow downs for what I have here. My 850 series has been online on this version of FW for almost 30 days. Been running great. My ISP doesn't have native IPv6 support so I can help test that which seems broke for some in this version of FW. Other than this, this version is working well for my system.
- KMDonlonMar 25, 2025VirtuosoWas hoping Netgear would have had a chance to address the IPv6 issue by now.
- KMDonlonMar 25, 2025VirtuosoMy warranty period has long expired, didn't see any other option. Also, figured one of the admins or a moderator would have at least acknowledged the issue here in the forums or in your "Notice" post pinned at the top of the page. There have been plenty of views and no comments.
