WOW, this morning about 2am i decided to update my two ORBI RBS satillites first. and that went ok, till a fantom ORBI showed up in my Orbi App. i then proceeded to update the RBR750, that went well till it said it was online but it wasnt. i followed the directions according to Furrye38, (ty) and i unplugged the sats and then the router, waited 2-3 minutes then i plugged in the router and then the sats and waited........it took a few minutes and the router came online then the sats followed. it still took some time for all my devices to get back on line (about 60), which is normal thing that has been happening. then today was the test. we had some heavy thunderstorms roll in, these south florida storms alway knock out some power or damages some weak transformers to were the power goes on and off real quick. it happened 3 times in a half hour i also have the comcast modem and the RBR750 plugged into a surge and battery back up. the weakest like here is the sats, no battery-back up for them and they used to take forever to re-sync but after the upgraded firmware last night, WOW, the ORBI's came right back online which shocked me, i thought i would need to reboot the sats. but no input from me and the whole system came back online quick. i am no IT guy here but this is a major inprovement from the previous firmware that almost killed the ORBI system. thanks to all here on this forum, i have learned alot from here.

claudiut wrote:I have the RBK753 package (1 router, 2 satellites) and have upgraded to this new firmware with NO IMPROVEMENTS whatsoever over the previous version. Same frequent connection drops, occasional speed drops. The only change is really the LEDs not lighting up anymore during the connection drops. So I guess that was the only change NG has done. Really lame!!
Look - here's the deal - you got the firmware update, right? So you are on 4.6.5.14 which is why you are here.
It's not your ISP, it's router, or anything else the other person is asking you to do. The following are the only things to do until Netgear pulls it's head out of its perverbial backside and fixes their code.
- Are you in your retailer's return window? Return and go get an ASUS system or something else. Netgear lost its way and I don't see them getting back on track. They have been unresponsive to us during this 4.x Firmware Fiasco.
- Power down your Orbi system (ISP Router won't matter unless you know it's the problem). Leave off for a few minutes.
- Power up the router, let it settle down, led turns off, etc. You can connect and get services.
- Power up one of the satelliites. Let it connect, settle down.
- Power up the other satellite. Let it connect, settle down, etc.
- IF - that doesn't resolve the issue, do the factory reset after you made note of your settings. MAYBE backup the settings first - FURRY7SeriesBMW is REALLY intent on people doiing that but I've seen some posts saying redoing your settings manually was part of their fix.
- IF you still have issues - hopefully you are still in your return window and take it back, get something else. You'll be better off in the long run. OR - if you want to try contacting support - don't pay for it - only if you are in the "free" window.
Good luck! I'm researching the Asus AI-Mesh myself - looks promising.

- LhymesOct 15, 2021TutorThe best thing to do is just downgrade it. The whole process takes about 10-15 minutes. You can check my history for my last post if needed. Netgear has been useless with the v4 firmware craziness and I have personally refused to try any further releases until I see the vast majority of users truly find that an update fixes these problems with wired backhauls primarily. It always seems to be a couple very vocal individuals that indicate all issues are fixed while the majority of 1-or-2 time posters continue to share their frustrations. After going back to the v3, my system has been rock solid as it had been in the past for almost a week now with frequent video conferences and no Airplay or thermostat hiccups. It does not require you to reset and reconfigure the router configuration.

Maybe I'll try downgrading over the weekend - however, it would need to be a version with the switch to disable auto-updates as I am not going to go buy something to sit between my ISP router and the Orbi. From what I read, that adds the telnet steps. Only other way would be to double NAT which I don't want to do.
Part of my reluctance to downgrade is principle and I have better things to do. iPhone app compatibility is another concern. At some point, the older firmware and app may not work well together. Perhaps we are already there?
In my job, I'm faced with consistent troubleshooting. Be it technology, people, processes. When I'm home, I just want things to work. However, in our COVID world, the two worlds have collided. My home is my workspace. Now, I'm faced with - is the issue my computer, router, ISP, work VPN, work infrastructure, work applications, etc.
So - that's where I'm at.- FURRYe38Oct 15, 2021Guru - Experienced User
If your ISP modem already has a router, you can block it there.

What version did you downgraded to? I've downgraded to 3.2.18.1, and this morning my system is back to 4.6.3.16. I see no option to disable autoupgrades.

There a host router in front of the Orbi system by chance? If so you can use this router to block NG update,
If no, then you need to follow these two links:

NOTE: Have the prior RBS and RBR FW files already downloaded to your PC. You'll need to perform this on each RBS first, then RBR lastly.

Follow normal Manual FW update process to select the v3 FW file.https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-AX/RBK750-Series-Firmware-Update-v4-6-3-7/m-p/2131307/highlight/true#M18670
1. Downgrade the Firmware to V3.2.10.10 for both Router and the Satellite, which is the very first Firmware version. Using the way I mentioned in previous thread that pressing F12 in the downgrade page and unhide the Yes button.
