WOW, this morning about 2am i decided to update my two ORBI RBS satillites first. and that went ok, till a fantom ORBI showed up in my Orbi App. i then proceeded to update the RBR750, that went well till it said it was online but it wasnt. i followed the directions according to Furrye38, (ty) and i unplugged the sats and then the router, waited 2-3 minutes then i plugged in the router and then the sats and waited........it took a few minutes and the router came online then the sats followed. it still took some time for all my devices to get back on line (about 60), which is normal thing that has been happening. then today was the test. we had some heavy thunderstorms roll in, these south florida storms alway knock out some power or damages some weak transformers to were the power goes on and off real quick. it happened 3 times in a half hour i also have the comcast modem and the RBR750 plugged into a surge and battery back up. the weakest like here is the sats, no battery-back up for them and they used to take forever to re-sync but after the upgraded firmware last night, WOW, the ORBI's came right back online which shocked me, i thought i would need to reboot the sats. but no input from me and the whole system came back online quick. i am no IT guy here but this is a major inprovement from the previous firmware that almost killed the ORBI system. thanks to all here on this forum, i have learned alot from here.

I want to try one more thing, I'll try to backup my settings, factory reset devices and run on the latest firmware. I saw some reports that people have zero issues with the latest version and it seems that they did factory reset. Just wanted to validate.

Yes, seen others as well mentioning this.
Keep us posted...Do the RBS first, then RBR lastly. I recommend a full power OFF of the RBS and RBR as well.

Do you think 4.6.3.16 is more stable than 4.6.5.14?

Currently my 7 series is on v16 at the request of NG. So far it's been stable here for me. I had v14 loaded but had to downgrade.
I'll I did was downgrade manually, powered OFF both RBR and RBS for 1 minute then back ON.
- jamacphotoOct 20, 2021ApprenticeJust adding to other peoples comments about stuff they tried.
Never did a full factory reset ever
Did an over the air update did not directly connect via wires.
This past weekend when I got back from my trip I did unplug everything and let it sit for like I think 10/15minutes while we were unpacking.
Then had to restart/reboot via the app the router several times until my iMac was connected and seeing it.
And yeah all I did this time differently was turn off a ask for 2.4.
While I was away for the week of the 11th, and my wife was home. She reported that yeah stuff keep dropping everything was terrible and during the whole week I would reboot a few times/several times a day and still nothing changed. Luckily she was directly plugged in.
Was auto upgraded the the latest firmware the day it came out and was mostly OK that week. Then what I described happened
Sadly from listening to everybody on here somethings seem to work for some some work for others and some people of had no issues whatsoever. I can say that the first update one before the current one I had zero issues the entire time. My issues really started with the current firmware that was supposed to fix the previous one lol
At least this not boring
Lol
But Boring would be better as it would be working like it did prior to all these firmware updates. - FURRYe38Oct 20, 2021Guru - Experienced User

You might want to re-load FW using a ethernet connected PC and see if this changes any behaviors.
Wireless or over the air FW updates can be messed up. - jamacphotoOct 20, 2021ApprenticeHope others try the suggestions
Hopefully was not directed towards me to try.
As I said once I changed mine mysteriously to .4 X off on Saturday, all has been perfect/ back to normal. So wish there was a simple fix for all.
Sadly the safest choice is to restore the old version three and block off auto update. That seems to work for all who have done it. - FURRYe38Oct 20, 2021Guru - Experienced User
Yes it was.
Have you reverted to v3?
- jamacphotoOct 20, 2021ApprenticeNope I didn’t downgrade to version three. Was preparing to do it this past Saturday when I turned ax off for 2.4 and then soft reboot and everything worked like Version 3/before the firmware fiasco.
So I have currently the most up-to-date firmware on my satellite and main router. And all working perfectly since Saturday - FURRYe38Oct 20, 2021Guru - Experienced User
Ok thats right, you mentioned turning off AX mode on 2.4Ghz.
I guess keep it running like that for now. I'd do a backup configuration to file as well on the RBR for safe keeping if you haven't already.

Just did factory reset after my internet went down in the middle of the conference call with the customer :smileymad:
Running 4.6.3.16 on the router and satellites. Installation after the factory reset was different from what I remember, now it's a nice wizard. I did not restored my settings from backup, just added my port forwarding rules and DHCP mapping for a few devices. Let's see how it goes. Another customer call in 30 minutes, keeping fingers crossed.
- EvilHomer80Oct 20, 2021StarThe time and effort people put into these forums is great, but honestly there is a very simple test to understand if it is a firmware issue or a setting issue without wasting weeks…
Assuming you can block the auto update, downgrade to 3x. If your problems go away, the firmware is bad. I did this to prove it was firmware:
1. Load 3.2.18.1 - my system is stable.
2. I upgrade to 4x and within a few hours I can see at least one satellite has dropped and reconnected.
4. Do all the recommend full system reset, disable AX, turn off and leave for 24 hours, pray to wifi gods. Still have stability issues with satellites disconnecting
3. Reload 3.2.18.1 - system completely stable again
I can verify it using WiFi explorer, with a satellite selected wait for it to drop signal, go take a look physically and sure enough it’s lights are on reconnecting.
When I downgrade, I intentionally do no reset, setting changes or power the system off for any time. I want to prove the only difference is firmware.
Netgear Orbi intentionally hides many settings. It’s aimed at the plug and play/non network admins demographic, set up is recommended to be done on a smart phone. You should not have to spend weeks trying to fix faults or getting settings right. They are hidden from you. You pay an absolute premium for this convenience.
Whilst I appreciate competitors have their own flaws and reliability issues, at least with other equipment I can tweak further settings for stability and load whichever firmware I need without fear the next day it’ll be updated again.
The only real fix for those with issues is firmware 3.2.18.1, block auto updates and run it in access point mode. In that config I’ve now been up for 5 days without a single reboot or drop of signal. Save the stress.
I really wish I’d given up earlier while I was still in the Amazon return window - jamacphotoOct 20, 2021ApprenticeCorrect always do a back up just in case lol you never know
- ddkumarOct 20, 2021StarI also turned off AX on 2.4GHz. Now that things seem to be working, I don’t plan on touching the settings. My 2.4GHz band is very congested, and I only use it for slow devices anyway (printers, IoT). Relative to my v3 firmware configuration, which always worked, I had to turn WMM on, 2.4GHz AX off, and dial down 2.4GHz transmit power.
- jamacphotoOct 20, 2021ApprenticeI do understand somewhere new to this form/topic but a big group of us including myself I’ve known for weeks this is a total firmware issue as my system was completely stable before the first firmware update. Strangely during the second firmware update and then this most recent firmware update my system went all wonky.
And correct was on the business trip got back and I was gonna downgrade to a version three. Don’t know why I decided to undo 2.4 ax , I really didn’t want to do that for five because when I did I noticed a performance difference but didn’t notice a performance difference or 2.4.
And mysteriously it worked.
I agree 100% downgrade to a version three and block auto update for now and everything should be fine. - FURRYe38Oct 20, 2021Guru - Experienced User
Would be interesting to see if disabling 2.4Ghz AX mode on your RBR would be of any help.
Keep us posted.

It lasted till evening, then we went to watch movies, and streaming is not working, buffering, freezing. Terrible. Rolling back to v3.
- SergeLOct 20, 2021ApprenticeSick and tired of this. I rolled back to 3.2.10.10, followed instructions to the T. Will see if my network will improve.

Does anyone tried to update to the latest v3 after rollback?
- claudiutOct 20, 2021Apprentice
I'm running 3.2.18.1 firmware (with a pi-hole blocking the automatic firmware upgrade) since last night (about 24hrs in) and so far it's been pretty stable. I haven't seen any satellite connections drops, and speed on connected devices is definitely better than latest 4.x firmware.

I just sold my RBK753. For the price, it is the worst WiFi system I could have ever purchased.
Good luck with your purchase guys.

Do you think 3.2.18.1 will override the settings that I made through Telnet?

5G WiFi speed on 3.2.10.10 is terrible!
- FURRYe38Oct 21, 2021Guru - Experienced User
Ya I think so. I remember someone mentioned upgrading to v1 after they had done the telnet config and it over wrote it. Unless you have a upstream router for firewall device in front, you'll have to use v10. If you can get another router in front of the RBR, then you could use v1 and block it.
Did you factory reset the system after downgrading and setting up from scratch?
How bad is the 5Ghz speed?
How are the 5Ghz channels configured?
Be sure you have CTS set for 2347 and WMM is enabled.

I did factory reset the system and pressed factory reset on the satellites.
Actually the link rate shows 866 mbps on 5G, I'll take back my statement, the MacBook that I used apparently got connected to the main router, instead of nearby satellite. Hence, it was on 2.4G, and it was slow. Toggling WiFi forced it to switch and now it's fast again.
So, I'll take it back :)
I'll stay on v3.2.10 for now. Will update in a week or so.
Thank you FURRYe38 for great guidance

Ok thats good. Ya, gotta remember, some devices won't pick the nearest signal so you got to force them too.
