I'd like to contradict the statement about the RBR & RBS units needing to be on the same firmware to connect to them individually. I upgraded my RBR750 first with 7.2.7.15 then rebooted it. Then used the admin webpage for the router to update each satellite individually from the awful 7.2.6.31. The only niggle was one of the satellites admin password was still the default and not the same as the router and the other satelllite. Painful but doable.

Maybe that worked well for you, however for best practices and to avoid possible connection and sync issues with the RBS, RBS should be always updated FIRST, then the RBR lastly. Been many post historically that users mistakenly updated the RBR first and caused connection problems with the RBS. So to avoid any hassles or issues, RBS first, the RBR lastly.
Glad yours worked though.
