Orbi 960 - Slow WIFI over Satellite
WiFi and Ethernet connection to Satellite of Orbi 960 is extremely slow. I have 2.5g xfinity internet, Orbi main router is getting 2k-2.3k Mbps down directly connected to the modem. Satellite...

Satellite is actually slowing down traffic anywhere in the house if it is closer to you than the main router.

Real bummer that Netgear does not provide command line access to the Orbi system. The original Orbi had a command to show the actual WiFi link rate between router and satellites (since removed, of course).
One random question: where is this system located? The WiFi connection between router and satellite uses 5G channel 157 in North America and Puerto Rico and uses channel 108 in the rest of the world.
If the system is within the 1 year hardware warranty, I would be tempted to perform one more experiment before requesting a replacement.
- Move the satellite to the same room as the router. (where nothing in the house can be interfering with the backhaul connection between router and satellite).
- The 962 package includes only one satellite. If there are other satellites, power them off.
- Connect a device to the satellite with Ethernet and run Ookla Speed Test. (I purchased a 100ft. Ethernet cable on Amazon for under $20 specifically for this type of goofy experiment. Otherwise this requires a laptop or tablet with an Ethernet adapter. - another Amazon purchase in my "box of stuff")
If the speed test remains under 200Mbps, I would request a replacement. This satellite (or maybe even the router itself) is not working correctly.

System is located in the U.S.
I plugged the satellite in 5 feet away from the main router and ran speed tests with the satellite between me and the router, speeds were 1500-1700 Mbps, but the network seemed to be really unstable with this set up as well. There were a few speed tests where I was getting 0.5 - 5 Mbps with extremely high ping.
Only 1 satellite in the setup I'm using.
As for ethernet, the original setup I was using had a desktop computer plugged into the satellite via 3' Cat 6a cable, and wired speed tests mirrored the ~150 Mbps over wifi I was seeing.
I may try playing with the transmit power options, but I'm thinking maybe the satellite is just not working properly which is a shame because I am a few months past the 1 year warranty period.

Might downgrade the system back to v.21. Been many posts with users complaining about v.31 not working well for them. I've not updated my system and kept it at v.21.

New FW is out:
Please update and check. May need a facory reset and setup from scratch to ensure a good take on the new FW and see if all works better for you.

Thanks, I just updated the FW on both the Satellite and Router but the result is the same.
Not sure if this is intended, but I did notice that my Satellite is connected to the main router via 2.4ghz, not 5ghz. Currently I'm removing and re-adding the satellite to the network, if that doesn't fix anything I think I'll roll back to the v.21 FW and see if that helps.
