Does anyone know the pattern of wireless connection that come out of the 960s?
Is it a sphere? an umbrella shape?
Is the signal strength a sphere around the unit or does it begin in a cirle around it and only go up like an umbrella?
Meaning -
If I put my main router in the attic will it give me a good connection to satellites that are slightly below it inside the house 30-40 feet away or do they need to be at a peer level?

We believe it's a balloon shape that is omni directional.
You can have the RBR and RBS on different levels. I have my RBR on 2nd level in my home, one RBS on main level and one RBS in the basement. Both are wired.
Attic would not be recommended placement as these areas get HOT and tent to be not environment controlled. Unless this is a living space that you have and have environment controls here.

First off - I am REALLY liking this community.
Thank you for your clarification - I have foam insulation and my attic is inside my "envelope" so it is the same temperature as my house.
I have an app on my phone that lets me see the "signal strength" of my wifi, and the lights that do not want to come back on have no signal where they are. It appears that the orbi does not reach as far as my google router did.
SO - I am going to put the router in the attic/ceiling and see if that does better with no walls to hinder signal processing.
The fish tape and network cable required will not get to me before tomorrow so that will be my next post unless I have some other "pie" in the face <grin>

As long as the RBR has good ventilation and cooling, should be good then.

You can also try to wall mount the Orbi which will provide you with good coverage towards the ceiling. You can find different mounting kits at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=orbi+wall+mount&crid=3MIK1SXV8WFS3&sprefix=orbi+wall%2Caps%2C160&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_9

I am a little frustrated - my Wemo switches and LIFX lights continue to leave the ORBE network. Other items continuously fall off and rejoin regularly as well.
I have tried -
1. The MU change - it is still in the system
2. change to 1 and 6 on the 2.4 mHz WIFI channel - it is currently on 1
3. to me knowledge I have tried all the options suggested and it simply is not working.
I am having troubles getting to Netgear support - every time I call they are "having issues and need to call me back" or are having "high call volumes" and want to call me back.
I am now out past where I can send this back to Amazon - I am disappointed as I thought that this would work. Any ideas that you have would be appreciated.

I think the main issue you have is coverage. You have many devices distributed over a large area: Few in the ceilings and others elsewehere. Do you have issues with devices that are close enough to an AP (router or satellite)? Start with excluding coverage as an issue (because usually this is the main issue), put devices close to an Orbi AP and see if those will work correctly. That is, you need first to plan the coverage, then I think all will work ok, don't play around with the Orbi parameters before you fix the coverage plan. A lamp in the ceiling is unlikely to be covered by an Orbi satellite in the next room.

I don't think that this is coverage -
I have an app on my phone that allows me to "hear and "see" the wifi strength anywhere in my house and the strength at each of the WEMO and LIFX points is good.
It is important to note that only these items are having an issue - everything else seems stable.
I finally got through to ORBI support and they changed my channel to 8 and changed the WIFI to Long Preamble. I had already change the CTS number to the max.
Several items came on line immediately and it SEEMs that others are again attempting to come back on line. It was working for about a week and then this morning again almost everything dropped off the network - I have about 120 items and I was down to 62 at one point.
Again - closes or distance from the router or a Satellite does not seem to affect the ability to connect or not.
I do not have anything that is in the ceiling that connects to the network. everything is shoulder height or lower in all rooms.
