ORBI 960 speeds 1/2 of modem speeds

What mobile devices are you speed testing with. Some if not most wifi devices are only 2x2 and can top out at 500-600mbos. 4x4 devices can see near 900Mpbs and over.

Please explain 2x2 vs 4x4. I am using computers (older iMac and newer MacBook Air, plus newer iPhones (Wifi 6 capable).

Theoretical vs. actual WiFi performance is a complicated subject. Internet searches will provide links to dozens of informative articles, such as this one:

The bottom line is that those wildly inflated promises* about WiFi are just that: wildly inflated. In actual practice, an older WiFi device that is located just a couple of feet from the access point will be lucky to achieve 400Mbps. A modern WiFi6 device will perform better, and is also affected by distance.
