Orbi AX4200 RBS750 satellite will only get 100Mbps on wired backhaul
Recently I rearranged my home network to wire in some devices and to add an ethernet backhaul. However, I am unable to get speeds above 100 Mbps from the satellite with ethernet backhaul. Details...

Sounds like a possible faulty RBS that may need replacing if wired connections directly to the RBR are working and the wireless backhaul is working.
When you factory reset the RBR and RBS, did you let the setup wizard add the RBS during the setup process or did you add it later on using the sync buttons?

I tried both methods. Each time, the statistics window said the connection was 1000 Mbps, but the actual connection (wired or wifi) was < 100 Mbps.

I would contact NG support and ask for a RMA RBS that they could send you and see if a new one resolves this.

An Ethernet speed just under 100MBs is often the result of two Ethernet devices auto negotiating a speed of 100MB/Full (rather than 10MB/Full or 1000MB/Full). If the Speed test had been, for example, 105MB that clearly would not be the case. Fast Ethernet (100MB/Full) requires only two pairs of wire. Gigabit Ethernet requires all four pairs. Even one pin not connecting right can cause the negotiation to fail.
It is disappointing that Netgear did not include a Show Statistics panel on the satellite similar to the one on the router. It is also disappointing that the RJ45 jacks on Orbis do not include those tiny LEDs that signal connection rate and activity. (To be fair (a) they are on the "back side" of the case and (b) customers would probably complain about "blinking lights" in a dark room.)
Would it be convenient to run that (no switch in the middle) experiment again and observe the Show Statistics value on the port leading to the satellite again?
The RBW750 has two Ethernet ports. Has the connection been tried on both?
When the PC is connected to the satellite, what connection speed does it report?
- tbk361Nov 20, 2022AspirantI tried a few different things to get the Ethernet backhaul working yesterday with no luck, including the following:
- disconnected all other wired devices
- tried both ports on the satellite
- tried a couple different cables (I have a cheap cable tester that showed all cables working, plus all cables have been used successfully in wired 1 Gbps connections)
Sometimes the statistics window showed a 1000 Mbps connection, other times it showed a 100 Mbps connection. However, regardless of what the statistics window indicated, the measured speed was always below 100 Mbps.
Guess I’ll reach out to Netgear for a replacement at this point.
