what is the advantage to setting it up as an access point?

Yes, seems correct.
Less hassle to setup Orbi since you already have a router wifi system. Orbi will have better wifi coverage and performance than the ATT modem.
Or I found this video that goes through IP Passthrough, turning off the BGW210 wifi, and other steps. Ah! This is so confusing. Why can't there just be 1 way?
