    This device can be connected as a simple WiFi access point. (see page 5 of the user manual:

    It will not become part of the "mesh" where devices will roam seamlessly between this unit and the primary WiFi system.

    If the primary need is for outdoor security cameras, there is actually one reason to use a different SSID on this access point: the security cameras will connect only to it and will never accidentally connect to one of the primary Orbi units with a poorer connection.

     

    The issues I see are:

    • It requires an Ethernet cable connection to one of the primary system units (router or satellite).  This requires a wall penetration and it may be impractical to install the cable.
    • It requires power, which can come through the Ethernet cable, or wherever you can find power outside. (or through that wall penetration).
