RBk852 using WPA3 with Roku device or other devices requiring WPA2

I was having issues using WPA3 on my Orbi WiFi 6 (AX) connecting streaming devices such as Roku, Blue-ray player, etc. I researched this for some time without success of finding a solution. I then found a workaround that seems to work perfectly for me. The workaround consists of enabling the Guest network. I left the main network on WPA3 with an SSID to distinguish it from the Guest network. I then chose WPA2 for the Guest network. I placed strong different passwords on both networks. I now connect my newer devices that support WPA3 to my main network and my streaming devices that only support WPA2 to the Guest network. This seems to work perfectly for me. I have had this setup for several months now as well as went through one firmware update. I thought I would post this workaround for those that could not find a solution. Hope this helps!

  • Were hoping at some point NG will implement the mixed mode WPA2 and WPA3 feature like they do on the 9 series. Orbi 3, 7 and 8 series will need carefully on how they use Guest Network in mean time.
