RBK853 - wired satellite
Hello, I'm currently running an RBR850 and 2 RBS850s (RBK853) in AP mode, all on firmware version V3.2.9.2_1.2.4. One of the satellites is connected by cat 6 cable to one of the LAN ports of my r...

Thanks for the info.
Unfortunately as my network cabling has a star topology with the router/firewall in the center, a direct wired connection between RBR850 and the RBS850 is not possible.
Anyway, IMHO the fact where the RBS850 behaves as an independent access point when the RBR850 is turned off is a bit surprising, looking as the connection with the RBR850 is actually unnecessary...

The actual operation probably works as you need it. It's only the status of the RBS with the RBR that seems to require the direct connection.

Well, then probably this is still a bug that needs to be fixed.:smileywink:

Not sure if the parallel connection will ever be fixed. The main issue there is that Orbi systems seem to require some sort of specific traffic data that the RBR and RBS communicate with. Something that seems that most routers and firewalls don't seem to let pass thru when the RBR and RBS are parallel connected to those devices. You'd have to figure why routers and firewalls don't do this. The RBR and RBS need to be connected in serial configuration to get the status to work correctly. Router or AP mode.
I've already logged a bug report about v10.11 not working in AP mode with switches in between the RBR and RBS. This is bug that v10.11 brought about. All prior versions of FW before v10.11 work in AP mode with switches in between. If you configure the RBR for router mode and use switches in between the RBS, then the status works.

The problem probably comes from the RBR850 odd requirement to use the yellow port even when using the router in AP mode, differently from all the wifi routers I know, and even from Netgear's Nighthawk AX6000 WiFi Router (RAX80) that I own and was replaced by the Orbi system.
BTW, configuration settings available on the Nighthawk are miles ahead of the scanty options available on the Orbi, for ex. even the fundamental DHCP server functionality isn't available in AP mode!
