RBR 750 - ISP firmware
I am trying to update my RBR router. Current version is V3.2.20.1. Updates failing. Then i realize my version is ISP firmware. I am no more linked with iSP and contract is terminated. I would like to ...
- I have teardown and find the serial pins on the orbi. I am planing to buy a usb to TTL 5 PIN serial converter and use PuTTY and TFTP64 program to take orbi in recovery mode and flash stock firmware
Its a ISP provided Orbi. The current firmware is from ISP I believe. All the setting and login pages are same expect the ISP logo. There wont be any firmware upgrades from ISP and i am unable to syn any satellite from NG. Since versions are different. Thats y i want to install stock firmware. I am unable to get the orbi to tftp mode to

If that failed, I would return the Orbi system back to the ISP.
You'll need to find a different system then. Something Retail and not ISP developed.

There should be some way to program it.There definitely is a way to reprogram the router, but it is so difficult that cutting your losses and buying a new router is the more sensible alternative. Netgear routers have pins for a serial (RS232) interface on the internal circuit board. A USB to serial converter is under $20. But then you have to learn how to access the underlying U-boot and Linux systems from a command window and figure out what to change. Could be 100's of hours of learning curve. Meanwhile.... no internet.
A clever person discovered how to change an RBR50 into an RBS50 by using telnet to alter one parameter in the ROM. Since that hack was discovered several years ago, it has not been repeated with any other Orbi model. (Lack of interest? or... too hard? no one knows)
Verizon did a similar thing with the original RBR50 systems. Sold them to customers with promises of support, and then never updated the firmware. Not once.
If trying to load NG stock FW doesn't work thru the normal Admin/Router Update web page section or TFTP doesn't work, then you'll need to return the this system to the ISP. Or ask the ISP to see if they can help.
