I have a switch which has the internet cord connection connected to it and my desktop computer and my internet phone are also connected to the switch. I can open and use any internet page on my desktop computer that is connected to the switch and also use the internet phone.
It would be a real help to know the specifics of this switch. There should be a label with the brand and model number (often on the bottom of the case)

Where is this switch located? Between the ONT and RBR or after the RBR?

This is the Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
Is the internet phone device supplied by Brightspeed, or from some other provider?
I am very confused because this setup should not have worked at all. Every ISP expects its service to be connected to one device which will be the gateway to the home network. Everything in the home would be connected to this device. Ethernet switches do not qualify as a gateway, so the ISP should be connected directly to some sort of router, either provided by the ISP or by the customer.
Perhaps a call to Brightspeed technical support could provided more detail. They should have records of what was installed for each customer.

I agree that this setup should not work. I don't have any idea why it does. Brightspeed is coming tomorrow and I pray they can shed some light on my situation.
Thanks for all of your suggestions.
