i would say average distance between them is 30+ Feet (2nd story, main floor, basement)
I live in suburbia NY so I have quite a few others around me using WiFi.
I'll try changing the settings around and doing the manual install, starting there seems easy.
Also try turning down the power output of the RBRs wifi radios from 100% to 50% and see if this changes anything. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
