RBR8 with two RBS840 and Two RBS750 issues
So I have had this for some time The satellites are all connected via wire and all switches are gigabit wired. I have 500/500 fiber. It tests this speed at the router. The GUI of the router is sl...

I changed the firmware. Things stayed the same. I then lowered the power to 50 and it was also the same.
Weird thing is that at the router speed is 500/500 (what I pay for) When I do a speed test on my hardwired pc I get like 385/95. If I factory default the router, will restoring my settings after (got several port forwarding) just put it right back to prior to the default?
Thanks

Can you test with both RBS750s turned OFF for now?
- RikerrockApr 13, 2025Tutor
I can do that. However, I'm wondering if I just have too much crap on my network? I have a 16 4k swann security system, an amcrest 8 channel hd security system, a few other cameras, two wifi thermostats, many tplink wifi outlets and switches, 12 wifi smoke detectors to a hub, a samsung smart things hub, 2 tv streamers, four wifi computers/laptops 6 wifi leak detectors to two hubs, probably some other crap I can't think of. Wondering if upgrading to a
TP-Link Deco BE11000 Wi-Fi 7 Tri-Band Whole-Home Mesh Wi-Fi System, 3-pack would help ($400 at costco)? Or a more powerful orbi? Though less access points? Just odd how the upload is way slower. Side note, when I power cycled the router this morning, after it booted up I tested the speed on my desktop (wired) it was 500/500. After a few minutes same test it dropped to 150/50. Wifi was 200/100, but same thing, dropped. Right now, wired is 385/25. Wifi is 23.5/10 and 15 feet away from an orbi.
Thanks for the help/info.

Um, Ya, cameras will be the worst network hogs on the system. Especially 4K? Wow and you have 16 of them online all at the same time? Ya, this will be one that will drag down the bandwidth. I bet if you turned OFF all these cameras, you should see an improvement...
How many devices do you have online and connected in total with the system?
- RikerrockApr 13, 2025Tutor
Some of these cameras are directly plugged into the swann. Some go through switches. Total orbi router says 74. The cameras are suppose to be only triggered when it detects movements.

Is this Swann hub ethernet connected to the back of the RBR?
Thats alot of devices. WIred and wireless. Best way to trouble shoot this would be to turn OFF all devices and go with a limited amount of devices as a test speeds. Can change the SSID name as another alternative to help you reduce wifi connected devices to help test. Once testing is over, put the SSID name back to what you had.
Had this been working before the RBS750s updated to v7 FW?

I have yet to do a factory reset. When I do, restoring backup data just put it back or should I redo each port forwarding etc? This would be a pain. The network seemed to have been running fine for some time, all with the firmware up to date and the 750 used, never noticed the speed issue. Only recently am I noticing a drop in the speed. Nothing new added for some time. I have "fing" device that tells me stuff about the network and it's speed test on that unit says the same as the web based ones. Most of the swann is out of that unit poe, like you said and maybe only 6 cams are ran via switches etc. This all reminds me of how like my iphone starts to lag and get glitchy when it seems apple wants me to update to a newer phone. Maybe I will try the deco from costco and compare. Never really been that impressed with the gui and response of the orbi. And maybe I'm not doing something right, but I can't access the orbi via wan.
Thank you so much for the help. Really appreciated to everyone that has help with suggestions.

Not a bad idea. Costco has a very liberal return policy. It appears that TP-Link has the same sort of Marketing Folk writing their product descriptions as Netgear. ("Three Wi-Fi 7 Routers Cover Up to 7,600 Sq Ft with Seamless Wi-Fi Coverage") The three units in that package cannot cover as much total area as the five you have now. And, none of the Netgear satellites are compatible with the Deco.

So I factory reset things, still no. So I turned off both NVR (Swann 16 channel 4k unit and an amcrest nvr that can do some 4k but only has 8 cameras that are hd). Speeds now are what they should be. Turned on Swann unit, really no affect on the network. Turned back on the amcrest, bam, bogged down; mostly the upload, and then at times the download. Turned off the amcrest, back to the speed I should get. So I turned down the bitrate on the amcrest from about 8,000 to 2000 and got rid of the substream. With this, I'm good with it. Not like it with it off, but manageable. Weird that it would cause a 500/500 testing the speed to 25/15. Curious on a newer orbi or tplink. Would it be faster for things on my network or only the wifi?
Thanks to all that helped.

With all those cameras and there system running, Seems like this would effect other router MESH systems as well.
