I'm able to connect to it and browse.
Can you please share how the 960 satellite was connected to the 850 router?
(WiFi? Wired?)
Does it show in the 850 router Attached Devices web display (the top panel) as a "satellite"?
Netgear's table is obviously correct in the sense that the 850 system does not support WiFi6E, while the 960 system does support WiFi6E. Thus, there is no mechanism for the router to inform the satellite of (a) whether the 6G WiF6E i is enabled or not, and (b) which 6G channel to use. However, the router to satellite connection is WiFi6 (802.11ax) on both systems, using the same WiFi channel.

The connection between the 960 and 850 is via wi-fi, I just added a satellite and it worked.
Looking at the 850 panel I see two satellites

Thanks for the screen shot. From my perspective, it appears that Netgear's compatibility information deserves another footnote.
(who knows, maybe the 850 satellite is also 'compatible' with the 960 router as well? - except for the obvious feature differences.)

The only issue I have is that I cannot update the SSID of the 960 to be the same as the 850
