RBRE950 Firmware Update problem
Hi, I have an RBRE950 router with two satellites, all working fine except that the check for firmware update fails. On Advanced/Administration/Firmware update it gives the Status as 'Service Unreach...
Hi Furry,
I'll try that next time I can power cycle without the family moaning. It's purely a web server issue, all devices are actually on the new subnet so its not causing any operational problems.
I'm still curious why it won't find the firmware service but my guess is it'll be cured by the next formware update anyway. No need to stress out on this, I'll just keep my eyes open for firmware updates for the 950 series.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
There is nothing newer currently.
What browser are you using?

I should add, I cannot update via the app either.
It is probably useful to ask if this is the only time that goofy error message has appeared?

Nope, it has NEVER come back with that message...always 'service unavailable'.
Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.

Hi again Furry,
I've always seen 'double NAT' as a benefit, not a problem. I've used it for ages in all my previous Wi-Fi installations. What problems does it cause?

Maybe however maybe a problem here that is inhibiting the RBR from checking with NGs update services. I had someone else check there 9 series since I'm at work and they told me there able to get thru on there system.
The suggestion of trying option #2 would be a trial test to see if that helps the RBR get thru to NG services.
Double NAT really isn't recommended as it can cause problems. Yes it may work for some and that fine if you want to run it like that. Just be aware that not everything may work seemlessly in this configuration. As this maybe one item that shows this.
I should add that I have only the Orbi plugged into the ISP router, so there are no other devices connected to it. -Mark
