RBRE960 and iOS ‘Wi-Fi 6E Mode’

Hi, I wonder if anyone might be able to shed any light. I have the RBRE960 router (no satellites) running on the latest firmware in my apartment.

I’ve recently run into an issue originally discovered when I bought two HomePod Minis. Airplay will not work if my phone connects to the 6ghz band. As a result, I’ve tried turning off ‘Wi-Fi 6E mode’ on the phone, but when this happens, it doesn’t connect to the Orbi at all - I either get the spinning wheel, or it says it’s connected but there’s no internet throughput.

I’ve created a separate 6G network, that didn’t work, I’ve tried changing the 5G channels with no effect either. It seems to be some sort of band steering issue - basically I’d like my phone to not connect to the 6Ghz band but it seems there’s no way of doing this.

Is there something else at play here, or something really obvious I’m missing?

Many thanks!

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?

What happens if you set up a separate IoT SSID network on 5Ghz and have the device and phone connect here?

If you disable 6Ghz on the phone, the phone should connect to the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz radios. Something to ask phone Mfr  about why that isn't working.

Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:

  • Any progress on this?
