RBS850 poor wifi performance when connected to ethernet backhaul connection to RBR850
Hi, I'm trying to find some additional help. I got an ISP box which has a poor and old Wifi function in my house (ground floor and basement). So I decided to buy new mesh system but it didn't work...

I use to have problems with wired ethernet backhaul between RBR850 and RBS850. Not anymore.
While following the widely recommended steps to first wirelessly sync then plugging the cable in, it would eventually want to switch back to the wireless backhaul.
My subconscious thinking was that wired should always prevail over wireless when it comes to performance.
Only after questioning this that I found the root cause of the problem.
While I assumed that there was a continuous Cat6/GigE connection between the units, this turned out to be FALSE.
The easy way to know is go to the RBR850s ADVANCED settings tab. Click the "Show Statistics" on the INTERNET PORT module.
And for the LAN port where your satellie is connected, the status should be "1000M/Full".
Anything else (such as 100M/Full) will trigger the system to go back to wireless bachaul (which in the 5GHz band, can support bandwiths in the Gbps range due to much larger frequency channels than in 2.4GHz).
I suspect a lot of people who report similar issues, will find they wholly assume the cable or whatever is in between, provides support for 1Gbps Full Duplex but don't actually check the system/interface for proof.
The culprit in my case, was a non-certified Cat6 patch cable between a Gig switch and patch panel.

Glad you found the culprit. Usually is a cable or Switch that causes problems. Mines in router mode currently and both my RBS are ethernet connected using switches. Not problems.
Yes, it's best to wirelessy sync the RBS first, then ethernet connect them.
