All the years I've had it enabled have seen no problems with it enabled. No intrustions. Trust me, I'm always watching. But thats me.
👍 Thats a old article. UpNp has been updated since then.
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping.

Ignorance is bliss they say :smileywink:
It pretty much allows anything to connect to your router/network with little to no identification required

Agreed if you don't need upnp turn that off. I have had to enable it, but I'm not using Orbi for any routing (its a terrible router). I have it enabled on an EdgeRouter4 but have added rules so that only select devices that need it can create any rules and only to their own IPs. Its probably still not a great idea, but consoles are a bit of a pain with different games requiring different ports. Realistically I could learn the ports for every game being played and forward them but I figure with ACL set up to a few devices that need it I should be ok

Yeah, if you're not sure what ports to forward (can be a royal PITA to figure that out) having a solid ACL should be OK

I was amazing to stumble onto this thread from reddit. I thought I had been doing something wrong this whole time with my orbi setup with all the disconnections/having to unplug and plug back in my RBR and 3 RBS 750s several times per week.
Most of the suggestions here make sense, I took the manual firmware updates and went back to AP mode. The only thing I dont get, how do I block the automatic firmware updates? Do I have to do that in the VZW router that is now my access point instead of my RBR750? the section is greyed out for me to 'Block Sites' and 'Block Services' since i am now in AP mode.
Also something totally aside, when I connect from my work computer via work VPN but through my orbi wifi, I get major performance drops using fast.com. If i disable and re-enable my wifi in windows 'Network Connections' it jumps back up to a reasonable speed but then deteriorates again. I could have something to do with my company settings, but just curious if anyone else experiences this?

Indicated to block a URL but I am not sure that it is properly working because when I go to check firmware in the orbi, it just says "no new firmware available".
In my verizon router you cannot block a full URL, it complains. so I blocked the keyword 'updates1' since that is part of the URL and I dont want to block netgear.com because of this message board.

Once you switch to AP mode the router isnt a router any more, just an Access Point which allows, distant, devices to connect to the router you have, hopefully, somewhere on your network. Not entirely clear how your network gear is setup though
I use pihole to block the firmware updates

Updated and have not seen any new issue so far. YMMV

I'm very glad that this update has come out and was linked here in this forum. I'd had may RBS750s rebooting randomly every couple of days prior to this update. In addition, my relatively new 14" MacBook Pro M1 Max with WiFi 6 frequently dropping off from the WiFi environment and then eventually reconnecting. Frustrating during video conferencing with team mates.
Neither of the two issues remain and appear to be fixed with this update. I've run it for 2 days and neither issue has returned.

That's good news
What, if any, changes did you make to the default settings and what process did you follow before and after you applied this firmware?
- RudolphyJan 14, 2022Apprentice
Installed V4.6.7.5_2.1.7 a day ago. No issues so far :-)
Running in AP mode with 4 satellites. Standard cofig, AX on both radios, CTS/RTS 2347
Cheers RUDI

Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Did the RBR get restored on it's own or did you do anything to the RBR?
What was the front LED indicator on the RBR when this happened?
