Ok, after over a week of no crashes, I think I might have found out my culprit and the root of all my issues I have been experiencing with my Orbi during the last 6 months.
When I purchased this Orbi (RBK852 AX6000) I also leased a Comcast XB7 Gateway. I have never rented modems from my ISP before, but this time it was different because I wanted to take advantage of my 1.4Gbps connection plan. (Comcast refuses to let you utilize any modem with more than one Ethernet port, I mean you can use one of those modems if you wish, but only ONE ethernet port on that modem can be used at any given time, You can only do that with their own modem) Since this Orbi only has one 2.5Gbps WAN port I wouldn't be able to get that full speed on my main desktop PC which has a 10GbE Network card.
The Comcast gateway has 4 ports, among those there's one 2.5GbE ethernet port, the rest are 1Gb. So I connected my main desktop PC to that 2.5GbE port and then connected the Orbi to one of the aditional gigabit ports. The Comcast modem was functioning as a router, while the Orbi was in AP Mode. This is how I have had everything working all this time and everything was working as it should (Or so I thought)
Over a week ago I decided to purchase this QNAP 6-Port 10GbE & 2.5GbE switch. Then I connected the switch to the XB7 2.5GbE port, then the Orbi with a CAT 7 cable to its 2.5GbE port respectively.
Now both my main desktop PC and the Orbi as well as my NAS all enjoy direct 2.5Gbps connections from the switch. With this new setup I have not experienced any more crashes. So in short it appears that either the Comcast Gateway was unable to reroute traffic properly to the Orbi with that setup or the Orbi was not able to receive the traffic properly.
Either way, I believe that was the issue, now this new firmware might have also helped, however before introducing the new switch in the mix and with this firmware already on the Orbi I still experienced a crash one time. However it seemed it was more stable with the setup I had than what the previous firmware was.
I'm crossing fingers that things keep working this way and I'm re-writing my reviews about the Orbi where I was absolutely blaming it for the issues I was having.

Nice setup!
Is it the same old CAT 7 cable being used when Orbi was crashing?

Yes my man SW_, I love the new setup and to answer your question, yes it is exactly same cable. It was the XB7 for sure not communicating properly with the Orbi when I had it connected to one of its 1GbE ports, while having my main desktop connected to its 2.5GbE port.
Once I started utilizing just the 2.5 port by connecting my new switch to it then from there the Orbi and other devices everything has been rock solid and stable. As soon as I can get my hands on a proper 2.5GbE modem I'm returning the XB7 to Comcast. Obviously it doesn't know how to work properly on my setup as a router.
It's a pitty this Orbi doesn't have more than one 2.5Gb port on it, if it did I wouldn't have to deal with the switch or needing to have it in AP mode.
Cheers!

Yeah, sounds like a compatibility issue between XB7 and RBR850 that's been resolved with the switch. It makes one wonder if the Orbi product line is certified by Comcast. It's also a pitty that the RBR750 is NOT capable of 2.5Gbps!

Yeah, I wonder the same, Absolutely agree about not being capable of 2.5Gbps. With my setup I have all my important devices capable of multigigabit already connected through the switch though, and whatever new device I get that's WiFi 6 will be able to be served by the Orbi 850 though, so I'm not planning on upgrading the Orbi anytime soon. Only issue is that until I can get a different modem the Orbi will need to be in AP mode.
- 57ayFeb 13, 2022LuminaryHi, I agree with RTS/CTS set at 500 using firmware v4.6.7.5 I find it faultless. I am running 2 wireless Satโs at the moment and donโt experience memory creep either. Well done Netgear.
- rr20552Feb 13, 2022ApprenticeAgreed. I have been experimenting with the most efficient RTS / CTS and have mine set to 1522 which is maximum Wi-Fi (802.3) frame size.
- FURRYe38Feb 13, 2022Guru - Experienced User
Are you in router or AP mode? I know I didn't see any memory creep in router mode. Im in AP mode now and getting creep.
Mines on 64 CTS and haven't had any problems. Even NEST controllers are stable.

One issue with this firmware that I've mentioned in passing but not really focused on is that with this release, the web dashboard (orbilogin.com) and mobile app are really, really bad at showing what's going on. Devices routinely get reported as connected to the wrong satellite, or being wired when they are definitely wireless. The devices shown by logging directly into the satellites are different to those shown by the router - and are shown as "Unknown Name". As of this morning my orbilogin dashboard no longer knows what my wired satellite is connected to, and the mobile app is reporting it as daisy-chained to the wireless satellite, which is obviously incorrect because it's wired directly into the router.
Everything's still working fine but this stuff never used to be so bad in previous releases, it all points to something still not being quite right with this firmware.

When I faced the intermittent connectivity "incidents" (few times per week), I notice it is on devices that are connected to satellites with the following behaviour:
- most devices are moving back to a connectivity to the RBR850
- the device remaining on the RBS850 loose connectivity is actually getting an out-of-range IP address by DHCP. A LAN scan from the affected device indicates it is "alone" on its subnet.
- the RBR850 still reports the RBS as "connected" and OK (while it is obvisouly not operating properly)
- the incident frequentely happens when connecting to "a new site" or sometime when "moving around" but I cannot figure out something reproducible (hence my suspicion that it could be caused by external factors like maybe Armor BitDefender servers timeouts?)
The affected device connectivity is usually resolved by "disconnecting/reconnecting" to the network, or by waiting for a couple of minutes. - Dd852Feb 14, 2022Luminary
I saw exactly this behavior a couple of weeks ago [a well connected RBS suddenly seemingly dropped coverage, sending connected devices all the way back to a very weak and unstable router signal if anything at all] - I have not seen it since I made the following observation/change: the affected RBS was very close (in fact in direct line) to a computer that had a lot of bluetooth devices attached in particular trackpad, keyboard. After moving the RBS away from the computer I haven't (fingers crossed) had the problem again. Theoreticaly this should not have been a problem because I thought bluetooth only interfered on the 2.5 GHz band and the RBS backhaul was clearly 5... but networking is a black art. All I can suggest is look around for possible interference and eleminate as many as possible!

Hi good forum users!
Before i take all the time to upgrade to this firmware, can someone let me know if the facebook and instagram apps work and load images properly on iPhone?
This appears to be a common issue for orbi and the only way i could solve it was to roll back to a v3.2.11.2 firmware
- Dd852Feb 15, 2022Luminary
no problem at all for me - and that's a problem I've never had. We're an all-Apple household: Iphone 13 promax, 12 promax, various ipads and imac, air.... no problem with facebook or insta either thorugh the native apps or through the web manifestations.
- 57ayFeb 15, 2022LuminaryWe have windows Apple Android mix with numerous cameras and no issues with any client on this firmware.

So still seeing memory creep. Slowly creeps upwards. CPU seems stable while in AP mode though:
- Chuck_MFeb 16, 2022Mentor
Memory usage peaked on 10 Feb and continually fell without explaination or reconfiguration.
- tjtrimbleFeb 16, 2022Luminary
MIne dropped to a low of 612MB late Sunday night (From a high of 710MB last week) and it started creeping back up yesterday. Right now, its at 625MB. I would love to know what is utilizing the memory since all logging is turned off.

Good evening.
Mine is working in Router as well BUT I have one funny story with this RBK850.
Last weekend i changed to a 1Giga ISP (from 500Mbps) and decided to change my Deco M9Plus setup with 1 router and 3 satellites.
My house has 110sqm in each fllor and is mostly wired and connected trough a switch.
My former setup was receiving the signal from the ISP Modem in bridge mode and went directly to the main deco (router) and from there to the switch and the satellites were ethernet connected.
I bought and installed the RBK853 and suddenly the dropouts started.
Conection was falling every 10m, speedtests didnt even started.
1st mistake - when the ISP changed the speed for 1Giga they started the dhcp server on the modem.
a lot of debug, reading this forum, upgrading the firmware (to this one that we are discussing) and i had to roll back to the Deco, as the kids could not do their normal remote classes (we were all with covid).
Yesterday, i decided to try everything from scratch...and to leave the tehernet backhaul behind.
so the router (RBR850) went into the entrance of the house, one satellite went to the 1st floor and fired up the system.
the speeds were ok (5GHz connection was poor in the satellite but working). i decided then to put the other satellite, on the room under the 1st floor and the signal was good in both.
Suddenly every 10m the nightamre returned....
at 2am i decided to turn off the satellite from the 1st floor...and then everything went marvellous.
all of this to say,
1. why cant i use the ethernet backhaul?
2. is the proximity from the satellites blocking/slowing the speed?
3. am i doing something totally stupid that i am not aware of?
regarding speed (now that it is working) and reliability RBR850/RBS850 are almost twice as fast as the prior Deco m9plus.
Deco app was better and Parental control was easier.
For sheer speed, now that it is working, i do prefer the 850ยดs but it is anoying not to use all the capabilities of the system.
B rgds To All

What is the distance between the router and ๐ก satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS๐ก to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

It is working as modem only.
since the Deco Mesh system that i had, that it is configured as modem only, using it as a bridge on port 4 of the modem
The setup was working perfectly with the former mesh system

Do this, take 1 RBS to same room as RBR and connect it directly to the back of the RBR with out the D-Link switch in the middle. Let us know it it shows up as a Wired connection on the RBRs web page. So same for 2nd RBS as well.
- FURRYe38Feb 17, 2022Guru - Experienced User
So with the D-Link switch in the middle does the RBS connect to the RBR and show wired?
