Are any U.K. members of the community familiar with the Orbi 960 series working in conjunction with BT Internet. My trusty Orbi RBK53 was damaged by a lightning strike in our road and previous to the ...

If you had a modem prior working with the RBR50, then I presume a modem maybe needed. For a ANY router to work with out the modem, something needs asking with the ISP.

That was the debate I had with the BT Engineer, however as I previously stated, and the reason for my reaching out the Forum, he said the VDSL modem I have is obsolete and modern routers should just plug into the internet socket on the master socket. I am in doubt that this will work, and before I spend £1699.99 on a new router I wanted to be sure as I am still not convinced that it’s not the modem at fault.
Have you ever had a sensible conversation with a BT Support Engineer off shore!!!!

Have you tried plugging the RBR50 into this "socket"?
- MikeG63Sep 14, 2024ApprenticeYes I have, and it doesn’t work. So I’m left wondering a) is it the modem, b) is it the router because it’s an older unit, or do I need a new BT modem that works with the new master socket and I turn the wireless off!!!
Anyway I’ve bought a replacement modem for £22.00 off eBay to hopefully eliminate that possibility. If that doesn’t improve matters I’ll buy a refurbished / replacement RBR50 from eBay and see if that’s the route cause and go from there!- FURRYe38Sep 14, 2024Guru - Experienced User
Sounds like a ISP modem is needed to bridge the gap between the ISP services and any router you choose to put online.
