Re: Orbi AX6000 Became Discolored
My two cents on this (my router back panel is still white, it's in the basement), so this is just past experience, with other electronics, talking. I noticed on Ebay there were a bunch of used RBR850 Routers with the yellowed back panels. I was shopping for used satellites, I want a couple extras. And, you can also convert a router to a satellite (check Reddit), so I was looking at some used routers. So I got curious about the yellowed routers, found this thread, and here i am. Since above he's saying it was not UV related . . .
Here's my take; the RBR850 Router runs hotter than the RBS850 Satellite(s), this makes sense because it's doing 3 things for you, and all of this in the same sized housing as the Satellites !! It's the router, it's a WiFi AP and has to broker all the traffic to/from the Satellites. Behind that panel on the router there's a huge heatsink. So if you place the Router in a location that's already warm (e.g. near the back of a TV), in this scenario the router will naturally run hotter because of the local ambient heat and the heatsink will therefore get hotter; ambient heat + heat from electronics. I think this higher heat is what's causing the plastic to yellow over time.
FYI, the Orbi RBx 850 back panels on the router and the satellites are the exact same, they're interchangeable, so it's not a stretch to imply there should be no difference in material composition / quality. So whats the difference between the router and the satellite's; it's the extra heat the router has to dissipate.
