- Since the introduction in 2016, Orbi mesh systems broadcast both 2.4G and 5G signals for the primary WiFi (and if enabled for the Guest WiFi). Neither can be disabled.
- If the 2.4G WiFi were to be disabled, then none of the myriad of Internet of Things (IoT) devices could be connected to the network (smart plugs, light bulbs, ovens, thermostats, garage door controllers, smart door locks.... the list goes on and one)
- Windows laptops usually have an option in their WiFi device adapter to prefer one frequency over the other.
- The device, not the router, determines which frequency it will use.
