Speed Test built into ORBI850 series

This is about RBR850 Series Orbi Router. The speed test hard wired into this router hasn't been reporting correct internet speeds. Earlier it used to report correct speed thru the Orbi App & thru Web GUI.

I have 1Gig internet connection. While Orbi router itself reports download speed as 35Mbps to 40Mbps, my PC connected over ethernet to the router report 940-960Mbps. Speed test app, on my mobile reports 575-580Mbps which, I understand could be due to the wifi connection on my mobile. The speed test within the Orbi App on my mobile also reports 35-40Mbps which is nothing but what the router's built-in speed test reports.

My question is:

With QoS being managed automatically (my assumption), what is the impact this wrong reporting of speeds in the router will have on the actual QoS being delivered? Will it throttle speeds across different devices based on the speeds as the router sees or will it be based on the actual speeds I am getting? There are no user selectable settings under QoS, only the speedtest.

In Nighthawk routers, one can manually input the internet speed and run a speed test as well. In Orbi, only speedtest is available. Manually entering the speeds is not possible.

  • There is a known issue of the internet speed test app and Orbi app not reporting accurate results.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

      It is 4.6.3.16.
ISP modem manufacturer is DASAN. Model is H680GM-A. It is modem+wifi router. I have turned off the wifi on the unit and Orbi router is connected to the modem over Ethernet Cat6 cable.
I did a completer reset of Orbi and now it is showing correct speed.

Now, I am curious to know if the automatic QoS in the router gets impacted by the internet speed reported by the built in speed test.

If the answer is yes then it is an issue that Netgear needs to resolve on priority. Or atleast let the users manually do the QoS settings, or atleast manually enter the internet speeds.
