Strange Control Panel Behavior for Orbi 6 and 6E
Hi All - I have been going back and forth between Eero and Orbi systems for the past couple of years - and my Eero 6s started dropping connections constantly, and troubleshooting didn't fix the i...

Orbi is in AP mode. Araknis is the DHCP server.
Not necessarily asking for help to try to fix the behavior. Instead, asking this:
If my system is still working exactly as if the satellites ARE connected, does it really matter if they show up in the control panel? Am I potentially missing out on any functionality other than having to update firmware individually?
Thus far, it seems I am not. As mentioned, wifi clients switch when they are supposed to - and speeds are as expected Wired and Wireless from the satellites. It's just the control panel. But I am not knowledgable enough about the Orbi software/hardware to know if I am missing out on something else.

Yeah - this is what I figured. Thanks for confirming. I think I'll run it for a couple weeks and see if it remains stable.
Interestingly, when I was hooking up the Orbi 6 - I got each satellite individually to appear in the control panel and show as wired, but not at the same time - and it didn't last.
In working to troubleshoot and spending hours to try and just make that icon appear - I began wondering if it was necessary.
I suppose there is always the opportunity to get the AV in as a last resort if it stops functioning later on.

To best troubleshoot that, Take both RBS to same room as the RBR, connect them to the back of the RBR and check the RBRs web page and Orbi app. They should show up on both here.
- ekhalilSep 02, 2022MasterI think that you will start to see some other random issues sooner or later. 🙂
Seems that you first paired the satellites wirelessly then connected the cables?
I would suggest to factory reset the satellites one by one WHILE THEY ARE WIRED TO THE ROUTER and then initiate “add a satellite” from the app.- DrewligarchySep 02, 2022Aspirant
I did try that on the Orbi 6s. It was there and then it wasn't.
Anyhow, I might try it again with the 6Es.
Ultimately, though - if the router and satellites are on the same subnet - and the satellites can see the router, there should be some way I can just point the router to the satellites manually.

I imagine using the Orbi's in AP mode with Araknis providing DHCP doesn't help. If the Orbi router was providing the IP addresses - it's much more likely it would know where the satellites are. It seems it would be trivial for Orbi to allow you to point the router to the satellite IP address and it would solve it.

That, of course, works perfectly.
In my current configuration, it's as if the satellites see the router but the router doesn't see the satellites.
Similarly, on some wired PCs on my network, if I type Orbilogin.net - it can't find the router. But, if I type the IP address I easily will be able to login.
Here's a feature request for Orbi: Can you add functionality so I can provide the IP address of the satellite on my network? This would easily resolve the problem - and eliminate lots of potential troubleshooting. That said, I'm going to roll with it as is - though hopefully it remains stable and I can figure it out in the future.
- ekhalilSep 02, 2022MasterIf you can’t reach the router using orbilogin.com then you have a routing/DNS issue.

I don't - I was just making, perhaps, an incorrect analogy.
Certainly no DNS issue with the satellites, orbi and router. They all are getting unique IPs in the correct subnet. The Satellites see the router, so - afaik - nearly all functionality is retained, but the router can't find the satellites - and thus, won't put them in the control panel.
Essentially in the control panel - it shows everything connected Wired or Wireless wo the main router - but they are not. They are connected to the satellites. Especially for the stuff wired to the satellite - no possibility it's picking up the routers Wifi. Essentially it's like the routers and satellites have combined into a super router,

What is the brand and model of this LAN switch?
When in AP mode, you can reserve IP addresses for the RBS on your host router there.
What addressing mode did you use on the RBR for AP mode? Dynamic or Static? I use static IP on mine when in AP mode that's outside of the host routers default IP address pool. I use 192.168.#.96 on mine when I AP mode. My host routers default IP address pool range is 192.168.#.100 to .150.

This is interesting. I need login credentials for the Araknis router which I reached out to the AV company for. It's that much more challenging working around a router you can't get into easily.
Switch is in the wall so I don't know. But I can open the panel and take a look.
