This description appears to be inconsistent.
- If the old Orbi stopped working, how was it possible to reset it?
(That would seem to imply that the old Orbi was "working".) - When a user sets up a new Orbi system using the Orbi 'app', the first step is to connect the smart phone to the new system WiFi before opening the 'app'. Is this what was done?
To be honest, I much prefer configuring a new WiFi system using a computer connected to one of the Ethernet ports rather than the Orbi 'app'. Is there a desktop or laptop computer that can be connected to the new system?

I reset with the button on the back to clear out any settings. I did try (multiple times) to set it up via the app and it provided me this error each time
