Wifi is completely disconnecting whenever I put my Orbi RBR850 router in AP mode
Hello all.
I'm trying to connect my BitDefender Box 2 to my Orbi Wifi 6 router but when I attempt to put Orbi in AP mode (Like the BitDefender Box 2 instructions state), my wifi goes down and the Orbi router (as well as the satellite) turns purple. I've done this twice, once with the BitDefender Box 2 and another time without it. BitDefender is saying my router might be defective, Netgear is eluding to the fact that it might be the BitDefender Box 2.
As you can imagine, this blame game is rather frustrating and I need some advice in case anyone else has run in to this.

Is there a upstream router at the modem by chance? If so, take out the bitdfender box and connect the RBR to the upstream router in AP Mode to see if the RBR works with the upstream router. If so, then it's your bitdefender box.

Not that familiar with the Box2, but I'll look at it since it seems like an interesting concept. In the mean time, it sounds like the setup would make the Box2 the router with the Orbi as AP.
Since it sounds like the usual borked update from NG is bricking the RBR/RBS connection once in AP, I would do the following:
1. Disconnect the Orbi from the gateway so there is no access to the internet.
2. Manually downgrade to almost any 3 series firmware (.10 gives the ability to block updates through telnet, but you won't need to go that far back since your Box2 can block the necessary sites). See other posts about the F12 key.
3. Set up your Box2 and block the necessary sites for Orbi updates
4. Attach your Orbi and put it in AP.
I currently have my Orbi behind my old Asus router (68u) because the Asus is better at routing (FAR better control) and does for free what NG charges for (IP security - it also does parental controls for free, but I don't need that). Plus, the Asus is set up to block the NG update sites (has been since 3.something after it was force updated (still 3.something) when I didn't want it to).
