Issues getting Windows 11 laptop to connect to Orbi 870
I have HP Windows 11 laptop that uses a Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 WiFi 6E adapter. The WiFi worked fine with my previous Orbi Pro SXR80, but after upgrading to Orbi 872 system, won't connect. ...
I did update the adapter driver on Windows. The Qualcomm WiFi adapter is build into the laptop not external via USB.
I did keep the SSIDs the same for all the networks when upgrading to the Orbi 870 and all the other devices connected fine - no issues on 21 other devices. Only this Windows laptop.
The laptop does see all the available networks, just doesn't connect.
Will try the no security passcode and see what happens. But, if it does connect, then how would I fix in Windows?
Try checking some of the advanced adapter settings to see if anything there helps.
Possible adapter may not be compatible either or chip set mfr hasn't updated the drivers to support or work on WiFi7 MESH systems.
I had a situation once where a device would not connect and found that the Orbi had decided to Block that specific MAC address. The clue was opening Attached Devices and noticing that Access Control was enabled. Hu? I never enable Access Control. I experiment with so many devices that Access Control can be too much bother, so I just leave it turned off. Sure enough, That one device was showing in the table as Blocked.
The only explanation I ever found was maybe I had the Orbi app open to Connected Devices and somehow slid that green bar under "Allow Access" over to to the left.
FURRYe38 is correct that the WiFi adapter "properties" have a bunch of advanced settings, such as which frequency band to prefer. Maybe HP or Qualcomm have a forum where that specific adapter might be discussed?
I checked twice, no access restrictions are set on the Orbi
I when thru and reviewed all the Windows driver settings for the Qualcomm WiFi chip.
- Set the preferred band as 5GHz (didn't make any difference if I left auto or set to 5GHz)
- Has a parameter for setting the WiFi standard - e.g 802.11b, n, ax, etc... The default is upto ax, so doesn't have an option for WiFi 7, which would be 802.11be. Maybe this is causing the issue? However I did try to connect to the Orbi IoT network that only has 2.4GHz enabled and all my IoT devices connect to this network and they were mfg. well before WiFi 7 was around. Windows Laptop won't connect to IoT network.
The laptop does see the network / SSID since is listed as available network, just doesn't connect (WPA2 or 3 process to authenticate).
I'd make contact with the mfr of the laptop or chipset mfr and ask about this. Sounds like something with the wifi or wifi drivers is not compatible between Orbi and Qualcomm. I don't think is this the first time we've seen this.
Check to see if the adapter in the laptop can be changed out or upgraded for something Intel. I know Intel based adapters work well with Orbi systems.
