New RBE870/RBE871 firmware - 10.5.17.3

A new firmware version has just been posted for the Orbi 870 line: https://kb.netgear.com/000066609/RBE870-RBE871-Firmware-Version-10-5-17-3.  This firmware release updates the initial firmware release version 10.5.13.6 when the Orbi 870 line launched in January.  Its release notes say:

Bug Fixes:

Fixed satellite memory leak issue
Fixed satellite status is stuck in config sync or optimizing

I am optimistic that this new firmware mentions fixing satellite issues.  Over my 2 months of ownership I've noticed a few times some satellite performance/connectivity issues after running for a while.  They were resolved after restarting my 2 satellites. I did not contact Netgear and just waited for a firmware update.

I manually installed 10.5.17.3 and will see how it goes.  It's running fine for me now.

Unfortunately after up for 40 hours, my v10.5.17.3 satellite's speed on my iphone pro 15 still went to less than 1 Mbs.  If I sit near my base router the same iphone measures 800+ Mbs. This is measured using the Speedtest iphone app.  My wired devices to the satellite seem unaffected, so it appears to only an issue for clients connected to the satellite..

I will file a support case with Netgear.

More debugging notes (when the satellite has been up for a while and performing poorly):

      • Confirmed devices wired to the satellite are fine
      • Connecting to the satellite's website shows zero devices in Connected Devices.  This is unexpected since I know there are wired devices and orbilogin.com website shows them connected to the satellite.
      • Wireless clients may not be connecting to any satellite.  I have the Orbi 870 3-pack so 2 satellites.  Orbilogin.com website doesn't show any wireless devices connected to the problematic satellite or my other satellite.  This would explain the poor wireless speedtest results because my base router is 2 floors away in my house.  I suspect all my wireless clients are connecting only to the base router after the satellites are up for awhile.
      • Restarting the satellite (power cycle) restores wireless performance and wireless clients according to both orbilogin.com website.  The satellite's Connected Devices list also reappears, now showing wireless and wired clients again.
