Orbi - will it work with an existing (non-Netgear) router?

We have a tricky internet situation. Our Internet comes via an old-fashioned telephone pole, download 375Mbits/s, upload 80 Mbits/s. We like to stream TV programmes, but the problem is that the router is at one end of the house and the TV at the other, one floor up, and there's no way to change that. We have a plug-in repeater for upstairs, which improves the situation somewhat, but is not perfect. The router belongs to the company from which we get our phone/internet, so we don't want to change that. Would a couple of Orbi satellites improve the situation?

  • You'd need the router and the satellites.

We can't say 100% that it'll work because so may factors influence wifi. They do work solid and are very beneficial. Which is why I usually tell people to buy from somewhere with a good return policy. That way if you buy one and if it doesn't help, you can always return it.

Thank you, I might try to see if I can get some satellites and see whether they talk to the existing router. The existing router also provides our telephone, which is why I'm reluctant to change it.

Satellites require the Orbi router unit to work. They don't work independently with non Orbi routers.
