I usually disable the wifi radio on my Apple devices for 5 seconds then turn back ON. Usually connects to the nearest signal.

Depends on how the device interprets the signal, noise and strength. The device handles the roaming algorithm.
Wifi5 differs from WiFI6 and 7.

My router is on the ground floor, I have a satelitte on the 1st and 2nd floor. I am actually 5 meters away from the 2nd floor satelitte, yet for some reason my iPhone was connected to the router.
That is weird is it not? I had 1-2 bar coverage (download speed 40mb/s), restarted the phone, connected this time to the 2nd floor satellite and had 5 bars (download speed 750 mb/s)..
The algorithm should have handed me over?
I have the iPhone 16 pro, can it be I have to change some of the setting of the router config?
