Orbi 970 Series Quad-band WiFi 7 Mesh
I am in the process of setting up a new home network and plan to use the Orbi 970 mesh system with 3 satellites. My plan is as follows: - Router in the basement connected to the Optical Network Ter...

After a follow-up discussion with another avid forum participant via the private messaging system, I thought it prudent to post my final decision here and of course will report back once I have the system setup.
I have decided to purchase 2 separate switches; 1 x 10Gbps exclusively for the satellite backhaul connection and 1 x 2.5Gbps for the rest of the ethernet devices. Given Netgear have gone to the trouble of splitting out the hardware functionality on the back of the RBR it seems careless to muddy the connections and use the same switch. It would be extremely helpful if Netgear could address this themselves explicitly in their documentation.
Thanks again for all the help and advice.

Would hardly consider having other devices on the same switch calling it mudding up the system. 10Gb is well capable of handling bandwidth and most likely you'd have some close to saturating the system or the switch. Up to you though.
Enjoy.

My concern is that the satellite connections would become unstable if you mix the front and back haul connections by passing them through the same switch.
Other users have reported problems with the satellites flicking between wired and wireless when setup in this configuration. My initial gut was to split it out but after speaking with my AV guy he assured me this was overkill (caveat being he has no experience with this specific system). Clearly, I was still skeptical as I reached out to the community.
Thanks for your inputs. I will report back once I have it all setup and hopefully working - CrimpOnOct 26, 2024Guru - Experienced User

What should be avoided is placing the router WAN connection through this switch matrix.

I have my DISH Hopper system along with several other devices on same 10Gb switch along with two RBS ethernet connected on 10Gb connections. Have had zero issues with stability.
