Orbi 970 wired backhaul?

My Orbi 970 (3 unit config) arrives tomorrow. I currently have an ASUS AXE11000 system (2 units) and I have the satellite hardwired to the main unit - so, wired backhaul.

Can I do wired backhaul with the new Orbi 970 system... and should I?

I just inherently feel like wired backhaul is better. But I've been reading about how the 970 handles wireless backhaul and I'm confused if it's actually better or as good as wired.

House layout might help.  Main unit will be in the family room. First floor. Kind of central.  Satellite 1 will be in our office.  Second floor.  Maybe 60 linear feet from the main... but up 1 floor.  [FYI, that is where I have my ASUS hard-wired satellite.]  With the new system, satellite 2 will be on the first floor in another office but about 45 linear feet from the main.  Marginal line of sight from main to satellite 2.

Thoughts?  Opinions?  Wiring is not a hard task - my house is well-wired.

  • I'm always a fan of a hardwired backhaul. I've got the RBE973 kit and its running using a wired backhaul.

I've always wished it would free up the wireless portion of the backhaul but it doesn't.

It looks like I can only wire 1 of the satelittes for wired backhaul?  The main unit only has 1 10GB port.

I run mine through a 2.5gig switch since 10g switches are darned expensive.

And all the ports on the 970 line are multigig. So unless you have 10g service to your home, the 2.5gig connections would be fine for the backhaul. They won't limit you
