Orbi RBE871 with RBS50
I recently bought an Orbi 870 series router RBE871 with one RBE870 satellite. I'm finding that my WiFi coverage does not seem as good as with my old Orbi RBR50 router and RBS50 satellite. If I try ...

My question relates to the RBE871 and RBE870, not RBR/RBS. Firmware version V10.5.20.4_1.3.5. I don't really have a choice as to router or satellite placement. Again, the old satellite worked OK in the same location.
The house is about 1000 sguare feet. Why would the cable modem affect the separate WiFi router?

871 and 870 are RBR and RBS respectively.
ISP Modems can have built in wifi and a router. Reason for asking about this so we can help narrow troubleshooting down.
For a 1000 sq ft home, the RBR alone is only needed. Having an RBS maybe causing too much wifi over lap with the RBR and thus your cameras maybe having issues keeping locked on to one signal and loosing the connection due to this bad over lap and signal transitions. The 870 series is more powerful than the older 50 series system.
Try turning OFF the RBS for now.

myoufo per what FURRYe38 said - re: too much power. Per specs, the 871 has anywhere from 20% - 50% more powerful radios, hence range, than the 50 is! What worked fine for a given device with the 50, where it sees a strong and weak signal from the router and satellite, it now sees two signals both stronger than before!
So what works perfectly in a setup with the 50, now you have competing strong signals from two Orbis with the 871. I agree the first thing to try is just run with the router online, and see if the disconnects stop. If that works, and then your only worry is some possible dead zones, then placement can be considered. But it's not logical to assume everything works identically with an 871 setup vs. a 50.
PS - Furry calls routers RBRs and satellites RBSs - it's an old habit some of us have from prior naming conventions. He knows what you have, he has those same Orbis on his test network 😉
