Orbi's main unit making clicking/rattling sounds
I'm experiencing this issue where my NETGEAR Orbi 970 Series Quad-Band WiFi 7 main unit is making this clicking/rattling noise, which it never did before. This has started happening exactly 4 months ...

Over a week now, and I'm glad to report no issues so far with the new unit. It seems like there was def something wrong with the old one.

Hi guys, no recordings, because it happens sporadically at random times. It happens inside the router unit; not sure if it happens with the satellite as well, as it is far away in the other end of the house. I have already tried powering off the unit as suggested by Netgear support. Also tried switching power bricks. If you look on the internet, you'll see some other people have also experienced this issue. Even on this forum, there are some reports.
I agree that is very strange, as there are no moving or mechanical parts inside the router that I know of and that's the first thing I told the Netgear rep.
Expecting a call back from Netgear today, as I have already submitted a ticket.
Thanks.

Keep in contact with NG support. Maybe a internal board capacitor or electronic device not working to spec or giving out. Should be a RMA item at least. Ask about a cross shipping RMA.

Thank you, FURRYe38, I called support back again today, as they were supposed to call me after 5pm EST, but I never got the call back.
After getting hanged up by one of the reps, who apparently had no idea what I was talking about, I called again and apparently got to the wrong department, but they transferred me to a guy who actually knew what they were doing, and he went through some additional troubleshooting steps, including updating the router to the latest version.
He said if the issue continues, to call again and just provide the same case number, and they will most likely do an RMA because he said there's not much more troubleshooting that can be done at this point.
So I'll be waiting and monitoring for 2 or 3 more days, and if it keeps making those sounds, I'll be asking for a replacement.
Thanks for suggesting about the cross-shipping RMA. Can you tell me what's that about?
Thanks.

Its where NG will send you a RBR for you to test out for a few days or so, If the new unit works then you send the old unit back to NG. You have to give NG a working credit card number for coverage if you happen to not sent either unit back. đ

Just wanted to post an update on this. Netgear support asked me to do some troubleshooting, including switching the power bricks, resetting the router to default settings, and updating to the latest firmware.
After doing the above, the noises were reduced in frequency by a lot; however, it was still doing it at very random times.
It's been, I think, around a month of doing the requested steps one by one, then waiting a week or so and monitoring to see if the issue continued.
Finally, Netgear agreed to an RMA, they didn't give any pushback to do an RMA, so I'm happy with their support. I was a little afraid of what my experience would be based on some user experiences I've read on the internet regarding Netgear support, but my experience was totally the opposite of the negative reviews.
Today I got a brand new Orbi replacement, and I'll be sending the one with the issues back via a FedEx prepaid label as soon as possible.
Fingers crossed, the new unit will not have any problems.
