RBE970 wired backhaul
Been trying for a few days to get one of the Satellites to connect with a 10Gbe wired backhaul. The culprit is the add on. Lastest FW, brand new system. It will connect plugged in directly to 973 rout...

We have a fix for Managed Switch issue. You do not need to do any changes on Orbi side. However, there is probability some managed switch might have looping protection, this will need to be disable. We will be writing a KB article regarding this. In the meantime, please reach out to me directly to receive latest firmware with the managed switch fix

Thank you for the response. The only reason I went with a managed switch was because it has 10Gbe capabilities and when I had my nighthawk X10 there was an SFP connection from router to switch. There are no restrictions set up on the switch, It’s a netgear and just like it was as it came out of the box. Since my Nighthawk has been retired it’s a cat8 feeding into the switch from the 970 Router. There is still one SFP connection to my NAS. The switch is a Netgear Prosafe XS708T.
I suspected there was an issue that hasn’t been addressed as this exact configuration worked flawlessly with the Orbi 960.
Thanks again for the reply, I’ll just continue to run that satellite with a wireless backhaul and wait for a FW update that addresses this issue.

Check this manages switch Web UI for the following features, IGMP protocol and Green Ethernet. If his switch has these two items and are adjustable, disable them and see if this helps the RBS with ethernet backhaul.

- JustinThymeNov 25, 2023GuideBrand and model are listed at end of last reply. I’ll login to it and see what’s in there. As of now it’s at default. I’ll report back when I get a chance to mess with it. Thanks for your reply.
- JustinThymeNov 25, 2023GuideThe is no IGMP and Green is disabled. While it is a managed switch I’m not using any of the managed features. Getting a 10Gbe switch is difficult if you want multiple 10GBe connections. This one has 4 with the other 4 being 10/100/1000.

Any chance you happen to have a general non managed 1000Mbps switch you can testing in place of the NG switch? Just to see if problem continues or not. I would hope not.
I have the two 10Gb switches in my signage that I use with my 970 series. GS110MX and XS505M. No issues seen with them to date.
- JustinThymeNov 25, 2023GuideUnfortunately neither of the switches you listed suites my purposes.
I did complete a set up from router through cheap 5 port 1Gb switch. Problem is that’s not what I need or would use. I just have it for TS at work and it stays in a backpack. My guess is the 5Ghz+6GHz wireless is faster than a 1Gb wired switch. If I didn’t have a NAS with SFP+ fiber connection things would be different. My Destop PC also uses the 10Gbe connection. It was nice to see a file transfer limited by the drive speed instead of the network. Thanks for the advice. I think at this point I’m going to wait for the FW update from engineering and just run that satellite on the wireless backhaul. There’s not much up there that’s using it anyhow. My main point was to offload the backhaul for other devices and ensure a connection with that one satellite being separated from the router by a ceiling/floor. If it becomes an issue with not enough through put I’ll look into another solution. As of now my wife is happy she can stream her weird Netflix series from the MBR and connect with her phone. My daughter connects through one of the satellites on the first floor that is directly beneath her bedroom. So far the 970 is performing better than the 960 across all bands. I was having issues with cameras dropping out with the 960 on its IoT when the satellite is in the exact same place and not more than 15ft from the devices.
